blakeymikey
So have a new fox fur and notices its sheds quite easily so need some tips on how to stop it shedding
furs limited
Depending on its condition, you could run it in a clothes dryer on gentle and NO heat. This will coax off the existing loose guardhairs. I hope it doesn't continue to lose fur, though a small amount of shedding is not unusual for fox.
LeComte
New? Depending on where it's from, you might ask there. If not, might use wind, i.e. a cold hairdryer without heat. Could be loose hairs because of production process. Hope it''s not the pelt quality.
blakeymikey
Think the pelt is of good quality just think it's a fox and it will lose some. It's not alot tbf
CoyoteFox
0pBought a pricey fox fur blanket from Greece years back... Wife hated it because hairs would shed like crazy... Because it was made with fur pieces and not pelts, and it would shed everywhere the pieces were sewn together... We did the dryer trick and got some relief, but you get what you pay for and you'll never really know how a pre-owned fur item was treated before you got it. Our blanket was new, but the shedding made it one of my worth purchases!
FullLengthFox
I have an arctic fox fur coat that shed quite a bit initially. I just took it outdoors and shook it out for a while, that made a big change.

Panther10
A little shedding is normal. What you don’t want is when your coat or garment sheds profusely, like to the point where you can’t even get out of a vehicle without leaving hundreds of shed hairs behind. I would absolutely take this fur to your local furrier for an evaluation and consultation. It could be from lack of proper storage and annual cleaning and the pores in the leather are starting to close. Without those nutrients the fur will biodegrade faster than usual and a pile of shed hairs is usually the first sign that rotting has occurred . if the fur is viable however, then you’ve got nothing to worry about. Still a consultation might be worth considering Edited October 31 by Panther10

I'd only get new
syfr
This is an interesting discussion. I would LOVE to have a fox fur blanket to keep my wife and I warm on those cold nights. Plus, it would really elevate the décor I have in the bedroom. However, unless I spend thousands of dollars on a full pelt blanket, I would have to go with some of the less expensive options ($1K - 2K), which is still not a small amount of money. I've considered a rex rabbit blanket. It's not as fluffy, but it would be very soft - and the main benefit is that it would be a lot more durable than fox. I do quite like seeing all of the pelts assembled together, but there's nothing quite like the luxury that fox blanket has.

I was doing some digging on Etsy this past winter for a fox blanket and found a reputable Greek furrier that was selling a Golden Island fox and an Indigo Fox blanket and each one was going to set me back around $4,700 for a full size comforter that is meant to fit over a California King. I couldn’t commit and just dropped the whole thing. Plus the whole idea of purchasing a comforter that requires so much extra maintenance since I can’t accidentally get it wet when I step out of the shower before I go to bed, I can’t get it dirty because it’s hard to clean skin oils and sweat off of fox, I could distress the leather if I’m not careful with it…that whole thing sounds like a nightmare. I’d never rest easy again 😅. It’s just simpler to take one of my coats out of the closet and use it as a temporary throw blanket if I get chilly

Like I said, I don’t need to deal with the extra hassle of buying a fur blanket just because of all of the extra care and maintenance considerations involved when it comes to owning something like this. It’s hard enough maintaining a coat that I wear with some regularity during your average winter season, but using a blanket that I will most likely crawl into every night is another matter entirely. I’m not buying a fur blanket unless it comes with hazard pay lol Edited November 4 by Panther10
