FoxFurStory_35
So the longtime furrier where I am from went out of business years ago. Having several cheaper very used fur coats I had just kept them in the closet even though I knew that wasn’t ideal for storage. Fast forward to last year, I bought a brand new hooded silver fox for my wife from an online furrier in Ukraine. The fur is incredible so it needed proper storage for the summer. I called several places. One dry cleaner said it could store furs. Relieved I didn’t have to drive hours away I brought the fur to the dry cleaners. Then I read to “never” do that. I felt a little anxious. But they told me it was shipped to a town hours away for storage (which I researched and they have fur care services). The fur was scheduled to be back beginning of October. It finally arrived on Oct 22nd. So the anticipation was building. The fur was stored perfectly and was in perfect condition, so I felt relieved and excited that fur season is back on for my wife and I.
minkme
Good that you did your homework. The furrier that I had gone to for repairs told me about a fur shop who can store furs. That shop owner would just simply store them in the corner of his store. No climate control or moth control. Guess what happened. One of the storage customers got their fur coat back with moth damage. They took it to the fur repair guy to get fixed. So be aware of where it actually get stored.
a_man_of_many_foxes
Maybe a bit different situation but there was a local dry cleaner near me in Chicago that would accept furs, but ended up using an actual furrier for the cold storage and just charge a higher fee. They used a furrier in the suburbs that would do pickups at this local dry cleaner.
FoxFurStory_35
I wish the furrier was still in business here. It’s also exciting to visit a furrier. I love the smell inside. Something about the smell of new furs. It’s a amazing. Then all the first to casually look at. I remember being stimulated on the way to the furrier when it was open. I had to calm down and act casual once there. It would be ideal to bring the fur there for sure. But as long as the fur is stored properly, I’m satisfied.
