Full-Length Coat Length?

Q:  Where should a full-length coat come to?

Or maybe I should ask:

Q:  Is there a standard measurement that a furrier would use or recommend from the floor?

Women's? Men's?

Thanks!

The few "men's" full length coats Ive acquired seem to come just below my knees by 2-3 inches... the women's full length coats all seem to be past mid shin on most women... personally for me, the longer the better...

Indeed a good question. Floor length, ankle length, full length ... what is the difference?

Measured from the floor, I would say:

Floor length: 1 - 4 inch

Ankle length: 3 - 8 inch

Full length: 10 - 16 inch

Pretty subjective and dependent on the size of the person

Indeed, the longer the better

I don’t think there is any true set rule for full length coats. Maybe if you are shopping off the rack a ladies full length fur will hover somewhere around 51” long and a men’s will be somewhere between 55” and 58”. But to be fair there is no set measurement. To give you a perfect example I usually wear custom made fur coats and because I’m around 6’ 2” and I request that all of my furs be full to maxi length (i.e. ankle length) all of my furs usually end up around 60”-63” long depending on the fur and how many skins are available. And I’m sure for most male clients who choose to order custom full length furs, that length can run the gamut as well. Also I’ve seen some ladies custom coats that are either longer or shorter than the standard 51”. The could be anywhere from 46”-54” depending on the height of the wearer.

I like this picture from a Tik-Tok video of a polo match in St. Moritz.   Money obviously no object!

I find these furs absolutely beautiful and the work of their pelts is just amazing... After, personally I don't care about this place, peoples who judging by the appearance are not interesting for me...

I respect different ideas and thinking, please respect my thinking...

Great sables. Nouveaux rich or old money - it's wonderful to see support for the craft, locally or worldwide.

My spec. for a coat is lenght 1.25m (~50") to a max of about 1.35 (54"), sweep 2.5m (100") preferably more.

I also need a chest size of 3X (or more)

For a car coat I will acceopt a lenght of abot 1.04 (~42"), and for a jacket 0.98- 1m.

If the coat is really desirable eg SABLE, I might not keep to those requirements.

Sweep of 2,5 m is a bare mininmum. I like it over 3 m. It also depends on the fur. I have several minks with sweeps above 3 m, but my widest phantom beaver is 2,8 m.

I think it depends on what us fur lovers want in lenght...perfect example, my full lenght gallery brand faux fur coat is atleast 55inches lenght long...hits my ankles well...former owner was over 6foot 2...& im 5foot 7... it is a lucious 3x with a sensous hood on it as well...

I really think it is the body type that makes the fit right.....

Is there a reason that most sables are now worked horizontally?  This has been mentioned before; but I think vertically worked is far more attractive.  Is it cheaper for manufacture, maybe?

I can imagine that the type of lady who attends snow polo in St Moritz's would be highly embarrassed to be seen in anything less the Russian sable.
