Is fur making a comeback

Was shopping in a supermarket in Manchester yesterday, and much to my surprise I saw a lady wearing a real fur jacket. More suprising was peoples reaction. Nobody even noticed. It’s the first fur coat I’ve seen this year, too.

Yes, fur has made a major comeback thanks to Gen Z and their obsession with vintage furs. There is still online stigma, but most people don’t really care.

Let’s hope it’s not just a passing phase, as another generation has discovered real fur after being denied by the anti fur brigade

Thursday my wife and me were at Haarlem. We were both in furs: she in her mink and me in my rabbit fur bomber jacket. My wife got a compliment about her mink and I was approached by a lady too. She told me I was wearing a nice cuddly coat and she stroke my fur.

At Paris Fashion Week, House Nina Ricci made a splash with flamboyant faux fur outfits. If we could get designers to go back to the real thing, those would have been spectacular in fox.

Fur has been making a pretty steady comeback for the last 15 years or so. Despite the slight setbacks like the fur ban in California and the bravado that we still get from groups like PETA , it’s never truly gone away. If my Pinterest and instagram feeds and algorithms are anything to go by, fur is proactively front and center in the zeitgeist of modern fashion and has permeated every significant corner of that market from the upper class to indie/ counter culture.  Everyone wants a fur these days. On all seven continents of the world.

Looks like it is, but I never see any of them.. I often see some nice coats go up for sale on the local ads and disappear, but still don't see anyone wearing furs (except me lol)

Ive ventured into several stores this winter with no evil looks... one woman while walking on a freezing cold morning complimented me on my raccoon coat, I did run across my anti fur friend at the park the other morning , she just gave me that "Im a bad person" look and carried on haha

Alina Habba may not be the sharpest arrow in the quiver, but she's putting her fur wardrobe out there in D.C.

It’s making a big comeback from what I can tell.  There is the “Mob Wife” look that is trending amongst women.  I’m seeing more and more ladies on Instagram, Pinterest and Tik Tok  showing their furs, and vintage furs.  The models, fan pages and furriers on Insta are incredible.  More celebrities are being seen wearing furs as well.  Different events like St. Moritz (ultra rich) winter festivities have more and more women and men wearing furs too. Now depending on where you live you’ll see more or less furs.  Probably more in big urban cities during the winter months and higher income areas obviously.  Fur fashion is on the rise and we’re starting in a golden fur era.

I will say, I have noticed a more recent uptick of fur appearing in different areas of pop culture. Be it movies, music videos, album covers, even just celebrities wearing fur in general. Yet, even more strangely, no one really seems to care. I think it's great—fur should be normalized and made fashionable again.

I remember even 10 years if a celebrity posted a picture of themselves in fur most of the comments would be negative and nasty, typically calling the person wearing fur a "fur hag". It was always really distressing to me as a fur lover—seeing so many people react so negatively to something that you identity with. Flash forward to nowadays, I never see those types of comments on social media posts of celebrities wearing fur. It's all just positive and supportive comments.

Perhaps nature is finally healing. lmao

I won’t argue the benefits of upcycled and vintage furs but just remember there is still nothing wrong with buying a new fur if you deem it necessary. It’s the ultimate form of luxury and sustainability. Especially since it will last for decades longer than a recycled fur and new furs have a better track record of keeping people warm over synthetic materials.
