Sex and the City movie plot:

This is interesting...apparently for the new Sex and the City movie, the Samantha character gets attacked by a fur protester while wearing a white mink:

Look how they ruined that lovely coat. The series always featured fur, and the movie will too, but I don't necessarily like the fact that it might be making a political statement. Any thoughts?

I think it's a tasteless idea for the series to highlight something that doesn't happen any more.

Although I question that it doesn't happen anymore (PETA still full of attention whores), realism is not the show's forte. Although I at least have to rent this on DVD to get the screencaps of the coat when it's clean, and any other good furs that might show up. In fact, those are about the only reason I watched the show.

Exactly, LTNK... besides, isn't it far more interesting seeing a person get attacked while wearing a fur as opposed to a person walking down the street in a fur and nothing happens. I'd suggest that the later just doesn't generate any interest or controversy.

Well the most important driver of a story is conflict. If you just want to ogle at something, it's an ad or porn.

Samantha gets attacked by a fur protester while wearing a white mink

A fur lover's worst nightmare ...

I must admit the first few times I wore fur in public I was concerned about physical and/or verbal attacks. Fortunately to date my coats and I have survived unscathed (even the day I inadvertently wore my mink jacket in front of fur protestors).

I thought it looked like a Fabulous Fur as well ... But I thought it looked like a nice faux jacket. I guess we'll have to wait and see what it looks like on da big screen. (If they were filming in summer I'll bet Kim appreciated the lighter weight of the Fabulous Fur!)

And that's a really bad fake, too. Looks like Donna Salyers'...

I'm disappointed in Kim...!

Look closer. The hairs are too fine to be fake.

Remember that virtually every "Fur" on the soaps, etc is fake. And virtually every one is from Donna Saylor. That does not guarantee it. But when it is so difficult to almost impossible to tell the difference, it is pretty unlikely that a movie set would pay $3,000 for something when they can get it for $300. Add to that the fact that if something went wrong it would cost them another $3,00. Instead of $3,000.

Of course we just saw a chinchilla used in a movie and that PROVES that fur is used by times. But, they didn't destroy that one either. Except through illusion.

Oh for the days when furriers would 'loan' such magnificent furs for the exposure like Coca Cola and Chrysler does today.

Of course many of the Stars would get the furs at a fraction of the price, likewise for the publicity of the furriers.

Some of the TV shows still use real furs in spots. there hav been several on eBay from "Law and Order" over the years. Apparently they consider the real thing worth it.

First of all, it's daytime soaps recently. Just making that distinction.

Second of all, Sex and the City is not a daytime soap. They have used real fur for almost every fur that has appeared on the show.

On that note, this coat may be fake for the purpose of getting it splattered, or it's real and they used easy to remove paint.

My two cents are that the white mink is faux...makes sense if it is going to be ruined anyway, but the the wrap is knitted lapin rabbit. I too would rather that the furs had all been real and the PETA scene left out...sorta makes the political views swing both ways I guess.

Hey, great to see you back Lynxette!

You know there is an option we have not thought of yet. Standins.

It could well be there is a real white mink for the whole scene. Except the paint part. Two identical coats. One in real. One in faux.

Interesting idea......

  • 1 month later...

Downright 'Boo', she used to be a big fur fan - is she going soft or just getting some cheap points for herself. Well don't do 'it' in the first place, keep the furs and stick 2 fingers upto PETA Kim.

I posted a comment in their talkback. However, obviously, they did not allow it. It was well written, so unless they are just plain PETA oriented, then it should have been ok. That is the problem with press. They only see their side.

Might post another though again just to harass them a bit.

Double BOO!

She doesn't even get points for being hot at 50!

And as a side-note, I miss the days of the GIGANTIC fox furs on the daytime soaps that you could just walk into!

ciao
