Worker 11811
Vince, Have you done this? Have you gotten what you were promised? I'm not putting you down. I'm not trying to say anything bad. But you know as well as I do that, when somebody makes an offer that sounds like it's too good to be true, it probably is. There must be a catch somewhere. They are asking for your name, address and e-mail. This could easily be a marketing ploy. However, if you've entered your name and have gotten what you were promised I'd be less inclined to question it. Even if it IS a marketing ploy to get your address and information, a person could rightly conclude that the price is worth the goods. If an otter fur pin is really as nice as you say it is, it might very well be worth the price of receiving some junk mail, some spam and some telemarketing calls. What's your honest opinion, Vince? BTW: I notice they sell Bears! $300 is pretty steep! Yes, I know, for quality you have to pay. Do you really think it's worth the price?
Guest
I know for a fact that River Otter and Alaska Fur Seal (sheared) are both incredibly soft. Softer than any fur I know of and I prefur it to Chinchilla. I have several lined jackets with them both and they are incredible and super warm. Sea Otter is suppose to be even softer. If it's true ... but I would be more interested in a full fur item. A hat, vest etc. I'm bookmarking it. OFF
mailonfurs
these stuff have wholesale value of less than 2$. Its a good marketing trick IMHO. However, you could be asked to cover shipping costs, and these costs could be more than the real ones. Eg, pay 7$ when real costs is 4$. So, this way, the store makes a 1$ per pin... just a catch I could think off. Not saying that this seller does that... I wouldn't know
White Fox
First off, this is Exactly the kind of site we would like to have more of in our links area for native. Any time you see them please let us know so that we can save them so others can see. Kostas is right I think that this is a great marketing tool. I think that we always are suspicious of these things as well due to techniques used by so many to get email addresses. And that is too bad when it comes to legitimate sites that do NOT do this. There is just no way to tell. W
bindwithasmile
I took the plunge and signed up for the pin. I used an alias in the name fields, so I can identify any 'snail mail junk mail' that comes my way. I also noticed the email field was optional and not manditory, so I left it blank. There were no hidden charges or CC informaiton asked for. I will report back when and if it comes. BWAS
Worker 11811
Just for the record, I do think this is a neat site and I AM interested. But I'm an old dog and I've seen plenty of tricks like this before. I wouldn't say I'm "suspicious". I'd call it being cautious. Like I said above, if the fur is as nice as people say, it might very well be worth the possibility of getting some junk mail. Further, the business man behind this may be a very honest guy. I have no reason to believe he isn't doing exactly what he said: He's got some scrap fur that he can't use for anything else so he's giving it away as a marketing gimmick. Kind of like a "furry business card". Let us know when your package comes, BWAS! I'm interested to find out!

As a furrier, I would praise the idea, but sending 1000 pins worlwide as gift without even having the shipping costs covered... I'm not sure if its worth it. Imagine someone with multiple email accounts using his and his friends addresses to get dozens of these pins for free... I think I would not do it. White Fox
Very late here. However wanted to let you know. A member received a warning that this may be a phishing site. So be careful folks. W
mailonfurs
I would say its definately (ok definately is a strong word and If I am mistaken you'll all hang me! so 'most likely') this is NOT A PHISING site. If you press the "Add To Cart" button you'll be directly moved to Paypal website. This is a Paypal shopping cart, so check out is through Paypal. That means that the seller does not hold any credit card information. [/u]
bindwithasmile
Mailonfurs, Do you mean they did not ask of any kind of shipping costs?? Correct, they did not ask for any kind of shipping costs. Also, to clarify, an email address was not required. It was optional and optional a second time if you wished to receive their newsletter. mailonfurs
then I guess it is indeed not a phising site and a marketing tool . Lets just hope you'll receive the pin. Let us know.
Worker 11811
I don't think it's a phishing site. If you're using Microsoft Internet Exploder and that warning pops up, you might have the "Phishing Philter" turned on. It is set to "ON" by default. It is well known that, in its default configuration, the MS Phishing Philter generates false positives. I'm not a Microsoft lover. I haven't looked into any methods to fix up the Phishing Philter's settings. I don't care enough about M$ products to expend the energy to learn. I probably never will. It is my opinion that you dump Internet Exploder and go with Firefox instead. Anyhoo... I'm eager to see what comes of this offer. Be sure to tell us when it comes! Guest
On the feel of sea otter fur, Its very soft but to really give a better review, I would need to feel a bigger sized version. this one square inch doesnt give you enough to really compair it to fox or mink ,But its a very cool item. It looks great on the guitar strap.
Guest
I've made up a couple of sheared Sea Otter furs I got used off eBay and they were nothing short of incredible for softness. Sheared Otter and Sheared Alaska Fur Seal are both finer than Sheared Beaver for instance. Have not been able to win yet at getting an un-sheared Otter fur yet. bindwithasmile
I too received my pin, yesterday, but it did not fair well via USPS mail. The construction of the pin is very simple, they took a 1 inch square of the sea otter fur, hot glued a closing pin along the back and hot glued a (faux) round peice of mother of pearl to the center of the fur. It was sent in a small envelope (shipping = cost of a stamp) and included a one page promotional letter (double sided) about fur and how we like to wear it, no matter what others think. The pin itself was in a small sealed bag and when I removed it, the mother of pearl disk fell out first. The remaining hot glue did not stick well to the fur, so I am thinking the same water resistence the fur has in the water, is what kept the glue from sticking. If I were doing the pin over, I would glue the mother of pearl to a straight pin, then push through the pelt and secure from the other side with a locking clasp. Like military pins, or biker pins use. However, I will not be giving it much time, unless my girl friend is interested in it. It was free, but it doesn't seem nice enough to warrant a trip to the craft store, a few bucks for a new pin and the time to put it together. The promotional letter did include an offer of free shipping with your first order, so I am sure all you have to do is ask for free shipping if you are so inclined to order from them. bindwithasmile
BWAS, Mine arrived the same way but survived the postal services care. But hey its free. Oh I agree, the price was right. It was a fun experiment and I did it mostly to see if it was good enough to be true and if there were any 'hooks' in the deal. No hooks and a nice little swatch of fur.
