Horizontal fox fur....

Now this is a topic to stir the issues. I remember back in the 80's a lot of fox fur coats worked horizontally instead of vertically. They had a 'Michelin Man' appearance and in my opinion were not terribly attractive.

They were mostly red fox.

Ok, having said that, what do denziens think of this version:

I actually think it is worked quite nicely and I would if I had the cash. The front collar is superb.

Agree! This is a beautiful example. The large vertical pelt front offsets the negative impact of horizontal pelts ("Michelin Man" look), don't you think?

I had a gorgeous cape made of Stone Martin once. Just loved it!!

I have also had mink done in horizontal patterns that were striking. The pattern occurred by rotating colors of mink, not in pelt alignment as with long hair pelts. It was a "sporty" look.

Designers have used this method beautifully.

There was an old Den Martin movie supposedly shot in Paris where the female lead had a horizontally worked mink coat. Plot of the movie was she became angry at Dean's character. She convinced the authorities he was guilty of murder as I recall, and kept waiting til the last minute to punish him by having him on the guillotine before she told the truth to punish him. Then, she got delayed and barely made it to save him.

Anyhow, I remember well her wearing that coat and remember how fantastic looking that it was. Movie would probably be the late sixties.

Indeed, I would love to see that movie again, but no idea what it was called. If anyone remembers let me know.

I agree! I wouldn't normally like that style of putting a coat together but this one works!

There are certain designers who THINK about their work and how it looks when somebody actually wears it. This is one of the few.

This special one really does not look ugly as all others do (in my opinion).

I really would like to have your lined jacket in that design, OFF

Guess I'm showing my age. They were around in the 60's as well. My girlfriends aunt had one in silver fox. On her, the Michelin Man would have been the last thing on my mind!

Michelin man must be some sort of hero to rubber fetishists, wouldn't you say? But to rubber fetishists (assuming they've got no parallel hankering for fur) comparing a lady in furs to him might even be insulting.

So if we let go of the semantic baggage of the comparison what? When I think about the photos I've saved in my personal collection I don't think any of them are horizontal fox furs (except for stoles). On the other hand, I've got quite a number of pictures of horizontally worked sable and chinchilla coats.

I'd say it's hard to convince me it's worth it with horizontal fox or mink. Sometimes a model's charm could change my mind. This example has some appeal, but it's no where near a favorite for me.

My double-sided rabbit combination makes me look also like the Michelin man, but it is SOOOO soft !!

Since fox always looks a bit clumsy and thick - but I LOVE fox - it really is an interesting design and looks good to me !
