bobdunlap
When we lived in England in the 60's, I purchased my wife a Kolinsky fur coat. I seldom see photos of such coats. Are there any available? Thank You. Bob in Northern Idaho.
Guest
Probably not what you're looking for, but: http://baltimore.craigslist.org/clt/603336971.html
mailonfurs
Kolinsky is not very popular nowadays. We sold quite a few like this one in the past. http://www.e-furs.com/images/furs/golden--1.JPG http://www.e-furs.com/images/furs/golden--2.JPG http://www.e-furs.com/images/furs/golden--3.JPG I have one more left, European size 40/42, standard Medium for anyone interested and since it is the last one the price is very very low. Kappa
Is there a reason for the loss in popularity? The one you shared links for looks like a nice jacket to me..
bobdunlap
Mr Kostas Milonsas, Mailon Furs: Thank you for posting the images of the Kolinsky fur coats you have, I am not able to send you photos of my wife's coat. It is 3/4 length. There are few pelts that have the light golden color. The coat has dark and light brown pelts, with traces of light gold through out the coat. ReFur
I had heard that many of the lower grade Chinese sheared minks were actually made from Kolinsky. Has anyone heard this?
mailonfurs
haven't heard anything about it, could be true though. it is more long hair (long nap as we call them) than the minks so I understand the shearing part but the hair is not as thick in volume as minks so this is why the result is low grade as you said... who knows... peronally I really like this natural colour (like the images I linked to this post)
ReFur
I love your jacket. It really is pretty!
bobdunlap
The following is for: ReFur, Kappa, and foxfan. Mailon furs is already aware of this information. If you go to Google Search, and put in "Kolinsky Fur Coats", item Six "Matched Russet Russian Kolinsky Pelts Fur Trim Skins", you will be able to see the light and dark brown fur of my wife's coat. There are light gold traces of fur throughout the coat. Thanks for the interest.
ReFur
Interesting. Have never seen pelts that looked like that except a few antique furs.
Guest
Though I have my Blackglama in my Carhart I doubt I'll ever get another dark Mink. I have another Pearl Mink that's going in another jacket and it's super soft and very luxuriant. Going into a light tan Wilson pigskin. In general I like the lighter colored Minks to the very dark. I look upon those more as a Lawyer's business fur to go with the dark pinstripe suite. Not my style. OFF
mailonfurs
I love your jacket. It really is pretty! thank you dear Linda. Bob, as for the dark colour of the coat, I'm sure it can be reproduced easily in other furs like mink. Almost anything can be reproduced today. RonGav
What I remember about Kolinsky is Richard Burton bought Liz Taylor a Kolinksy coat maybe in 60's -- a coat then considered the epitome of furs..
Guest
Taylor received a Kojah mink coat, NOT kolinsky. Liz Taylor can be seen wearing a Kojah mink coat in this photo. The coat is made of 42 Kojah mink pelts. This photo comes from Look Magazine. Richard Burton gave her this fur coat. http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs122&d=07520&f=IMG_2278.JPG

Worker 11811
There's lots of lovely Javascript on that page... Some of it browser-specific. It may or may not work on a given computer, depending on what application you use to view the web. Some programmers will never learn...
mailonfurs
Bob was kind enough to send me the photos. He wanted me to share these with you. Here they are:
Guest
That looks a lot like a "Red Mink" I got off eBay not long ago I thought to actually be dyed Fitch OFF
mailonfurs
the hair is too long so it could be a kolinsky. The color looks as a dye, but then again, if these are natural: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200208449187&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010 then it is natural. But I never actually came across on anything like that before so I can't be sure
RonGav
Thank you "FreeMe" for the correction. It was years ago that I read the article in Look as you have offered. and I've since wondered why a Kolinsky was so special -- it doesn't seem so. I'll check out the pictures. Regarding a similar scene, does anyone remember a magazine picture of Lucille Ball, sitting in a huge mink coat holding then little Ricky? That image of her large mink has stuck with me for decades. I always wanted to cuddle inside with her (like little Ricky). And LINDA, I missed you too -- not keeping up as we had done so in the past. But I'm back. So neat to converse once again with my buddies. I'll PM you to catch up.
