New York City Trip

Hey Guys...

I recently returned from a trip to NYC for both business and pleasure, and wanted to share the really great experience I had at two furriers whilst I was there.

I had always wanted to get to Ritz Furs just to see it...I mean the things I had heard about the great gently used furs available for really good prioces had to be exaggerated right? WRONG!!! It is really a good thing that I do not live within a thousand miles of this place or else my fur budget would be really and truly blown. Granted one never knows what one will find here as the stock changes literally daily...a guy brought in a mink whilst I was there (he should have kept it!), but I was there on the right day for me. I was able to add a half dozen furs to my collection for a very nice price indeed.

The staff is very nice to work with, and everything was done as requested, on time, and safely shipped home to me. Based upon my experience I can highly recommend a visit.

The second place I went was to a design house I had never worked with before, but had gotten an introduction from my local furrier to visit. Couture is soooo chic.

I ordered a Golden Isle fox hooded 3/4 coat which I was able to preview the skins for, and am soooo looking forward to it's arrival! The weather looks like it will cooperate for a while longer at least so I will be able to wear it this season yet.

Oh, also went to see Mama Mia which was fantastic, and saw lots of furs besides my own out and about the streets and avenues...mainly mink, but also silver fox, coyote, finn raccoon and a white gentleman in a full length black sheared mink with chinchilla collar and cuffs...absolutely gorgeous!

Lynxette, Welcome back! It's always a treat to see a post from you.

Your New York visit sounded grand. I'm a nosey so-and-so ... So naturally I would love to hear what you found at Ritz Furs -- It sounded like quit a haul!

Take care.

P.S. I loved Mama Mia. Can't wait to see Meryl Streep and Christine Baranski in the movie version this summer.

Thanks for your update, Lynxette! I'm now very happy that I suggested that another one of our members visit Ritz on his upcoming NYC trip. Is there a website where we might be able tview the pelts for your golden island fox? I've only been fortunate enough to see a couple of those coats 'in real life', but that quickly became my favorite 'type' of fox!

Not that I know of off the top of my head (I am sure that there is one though)...my furrier friend has a wonederful framed poster that shows every colour of fox pelt developed thus far though, and believe it or not, even within the Golden Isle range there are variations such as Faun Light fox. This is essentially a paler golden isle.

As to what I bought at the Ritz, here is the list:

Golden Island Fox stroller

F/L Fisher coat

F/L Silver Fox Coat

F/L whiskey dyed blue fox hooded cape (this is my Joan Collins piece now )

F/L Canadian lynx

F/L coyote

Sorry, I have no equipment for putting pics online, but I did get a wonderful surprise package today. Yes, my custom golden isle 3/4 hooded coat came this AM, and it is simply dreamy yummy!!! Wearing it as I type btw.

Lynxette, just for our reference should we have a trip to NYC, what sore of a price reduction on a new coat would you say you got at Ritz furs?

You had a large purchase list, so the items were very well priced and / or you had a reasonable budget.

Clearly one to put on the radar for all NYC trips.

Auzmink.

It depends upon the coat...yes, I know this is the ultimate cliche, but it is really true. I would say in general terms that it is at least 75% or more. The factors are what the seller wants for the coat, how long it has been there, type of fur, etc. Just as one example, a f/l coyote for 750.00 that would be new for at least 4500.00...and remember, they do not take things in that are net only very gently used. So to most observers the coat could be brand new but is not.
