New Films with Furs

Two recent films that are out do contain scenes with furs. The Bank Job has two brief scenes, one with a Madame in a mink coat, and the other with the female lead in what appears to be mink. It is very difficult to tell as the shot is brief and at night. What is for sure is that bot are real and not faux.

The other is The Other Boelyn Girl. This flick is full of furs, but of course no fur coats as we think of them as they had not been invented yet. All, and I repeat all of the male lead characters have costumes trimmed in copious amounts of fox, fisher, mink, sable, raccoon, etc. which is very accurately done for the time depicted. The costume budget must have been fairly large for this, and it shows in a positive way.

What I also found interesting as well as highly accurate is that men are the predominant fur wearers here...women are only allowed small bits here and there. This is because at the time, furs were a sign of status, wealth, and power which of course only men were allowed to display. Something I wish would come back into fashion, at least to the extent of getting more men to wear furs out and about. Of course I would never consent to being so limited as these women were...guess that makes me just a bit of a feminist after all.

oooo!!! I just saw the Bank Job!!! It was really good, and kind of intense, there was a freaky torture scene. If you can't handle intense movies it's not worth seeing because the fur scenes are very minimal, but it is a great movie and the few fur scenes there are make for an added bonus!

There are rabbit furs to be seen in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, starring the illustrious Cate Blanchett. You have one seen where a man has a leopard-dyed rabbit fur hanging down the front of his body. This scene occurs early in the movie, when people from around the globe come to offer Elizabeth gifts. Another scene later in the movie involves Elizabeth and one of her advisors. The advisor is wearing a gray rabbit vest. The film is neither historically accurate nor a great film and sometimes resembles a soap opera, but the costumes are beautiful, and the kitsch value is grandly entertaining. Whenever Blanchett is onscreen, your viewing time is well rewarded.

I can definitely see sable being used for trim at Henry VIII's court, and possibly fox, but fisher and raccoon? These are New World furs. Would the English even have access to such furs around this time period?

Depends on weather you believe in early Columbian period trade with North America or not

Some think it was more commonplace than the uptight Historians would like to admit.

Yes, they do make love on the bed with the furs. My appreciation of Eric went up with this film for sure.

Generally speaking, I look upon most of the crop of today's young actors as "pipsqueaks" and "pretty boys" but I've got to agree with you. Eric Bana looks like he's shaping up nicely as an actor.

I plan to check out The Other Boleyn Girl when it comes out on DVD. Some of the pics from the film that Worker posted a few months ago were awesome.

Another film worth checking out, for the sake of furs is 'The Hitman'. Granted it's more tuned to the video game/ action fans but the latter half of the movie is shot in what would be St. Petersburg and there is a decent amount of fur to be seen.

From what I heard, it was a typical video game-based movie, in that it sucked. It's only due to the furs that I'm even considering renting it.
