furslave
recently I was reading an article in the local news paper, and an article was talking about fetishist. The description was that a fetishist is someone who cannot have sex and pleasure him/her self without the object. I always thought of myself as a fetishist. For me, fur as to be with me when I'm having sex. But with this description, even if I can pleasure myself without fur, I am not considered as a fur fetishist. So then, how many of you are REAL fur fetishist, according to this description and how many of you are like me?
RonGav
Maybe we just PREFER to have our sexual encounters with fur.. rather than without. Perhaps a true fetishist DOES need the object to succeed... where we don't. Furs just make the whole experience more sensual.
MadameTR
Everyone, male and female, has the same sex organ: the brain. You do not necessarily have to have the fetish object physically available if your brain can convince the rest of your body that it is there. That is one of the reasons for the popularity of pictures: to help the brain supply the missing object. So the question really should be, can you do it without thinking about fur in some way? Guest
Fetishism has nothing to do with the ability tp have sex or not. Complete lack of understanding on the part of the writer OFF
Zaphod_bee
I would say: plead guilty in all the things said above ! I am no fetishist in the description, but am totally addicted to fur. I for myself must admit that "nothing goes without fur". Nevertheless for me it is a supportive fetish since I still do not want to admire it on my own ... So to answer furslave´s question: I am a REAL fur fetishist without the need to have fur physically take part Zaphod_bee
FurLoverinFL
I know my parts 'work' even if no fur is involved. I prefer to have fur included in any encounter, but there are times when one just doesn't have any with them (a normal happening down here in FL) or perhaps a partner isn't into it. I know that I perform better (more excited = better orgasms) when fur is involved. I consider myself a 'fetishist' when it comes to fur, so IMO anyway, the article is wrong. lynxette
The thing is with most strict psychological definitions very few people will actually fit them. I am definitely NOT a fur fetishist in this way of speaking, but rather fur is a discovered aphrodisiac. I suspect it may be the same or similar for many at the den. Plus of course there is the layman's definition which is much more broad and may possibly fit therefor in more situations.
Worker 11811
If I remember my psychology from college, sexual arousal caused by the presence of an inanimate object isn't called a "fetish". It is known as "paraphilia". Fetishism is when a person habitually commits sexual acts with an inanimate object. To have sexual arousal in the PRESENCE of an object is "paraphila". To have sex WITH an object is a "fetish". So, if you see a fur coat and you start getting horny, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a fur fetish. It only means that you are a paraphiliac. Even if you habitually masturbate with fur, or even if you can't "get it up" unless there is fur in the bed with you, it STILL doesn't necessarily make you a fetishist. It isn't until the fur becomes an object of sexual desire BY ITSELF that you are a fetishist. The term "fur fetish" is only a popular term, not a medical/psychological one. I'm quite happy to be a "fur paraphiliac". And, as long as I don't break any laws and keep my activities confined to private places in the presense of consenting adults, it's NOBODY'S damn business what I do in my bedroom! JGalanos
There are a number of definitions of fetish. The following apply to me: *An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment. *Something which is regarded with too much reverence or given too much attention. *An object of unreasonably excessive attention or reverence. *An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment; a fixation. Fur fixation. That is a good summary.
AKcoyote
There was a lengthy discussion on this topic that is in our Archive. I think the sexual and / or obsession definitions would apply to most members who monitor this forum. Thus it can generally be stated that we are all fetishists of one form or another. JGalanos
"Fetish" has definite connotations ... So most days I simply think of myself as a "fur fan" or "fur collector" -- Kinda like the lady obsessed with birds (bird themed clothing and home decor) or the guy obsessed with cars (subscribes to multiple auto magazines, built a separate garage to house his growing collection that he washes and waxes whether it needs it or not, etc.). But some days I do have to admit I'm head over heels in love with beautiful, luxurious furs.
Worker 11811
"Fetish" has definite connotations... That's what I was saying. Technically speaking, to have a "fur fetish" means that you are sexually attracted to fur instead of other people. If you are sexually attracted to other people who wear fur, that is "paraphilia". Therefore, it is not correct to say that we have a fur fetish!
ReFur
Worker, For some of our members, fur fetish is a very real part of their lives, therefore the guilt and emotional issues that have been discussed. I have always said I find my love of fur to be one of the erotic - not fetish. Linda

Worker 11811
I did say: ...as long as I don't break any laws and keep my activities confined to private places in the presense of consenting adults, it's NOBODY'S damn business what I do in my bedroom! Your point is exactly what I was addressing. I have plenty of things in my life to feel shameful and guilty about. I got hooked on drugs and did a lot of bad things and hurt some people in the process. It took me more than ten years (closer to fifteen) to get my ass straightened out again. I am STILL paying the price in terms of bad memories and emotional effects. Compared to things that have happened in my past, getting turned on by fur doesn't even move my "guilt meter" off the peg. The question originally posed asked about the nature of fetish. I said that a true fetish is different than a mere attraction to fur. I understand what you're talking about. There are people who don't understand their attraction to fur in the same terms that I do. They have trouble making the distinctions. For the benefit of the people who read but don't post and who feel bad because they are attracted to fur in a way that makes them feel shamed, I'm here to say that, as long as you're not hurting anybody or doing anything illegal, you can do almost anything you want with your fur! If anybody tries to tell you what you should do with your life, you should just tell them, "It is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!"
