What is best Original Fur or Coloured..

Hi..

I have just received a beautiful black Conney Fur jacket.. it has a lovely deep jet black sheen and colouring...

I was curious as to what people prefer....

Do you like your furs to be natural or coloured..

I have a real passion for Coyote (I don't own one) but when I see the depth of natural colours in the pelt.. it just looks amazing..

I love deep furs with depth of colours...but i am also partial to a cloured skin..

So I would go for 60% nataural fur and about 40 % dyed furs.. if I had the choice..

What do you guys like?

One of my absolute favourite furs in my collection is a dyed pink canadian lynx 3/4 coat...my favourite colour on my favourite fur, so what is not to like eh?

I would say that overall I probably prefer natural to dyed, but to me it is always a matter of personal preference at the moment of purchase that wins the day...if I like it, and it is a unique addition to my collection than I buy.

One other interesting point...most of the men I know seem to express a preference for natural furs over dyed. Not sure exactly why on this one...anybody want to comment?

It's the wild look thing

That's why I like the longer hair furs with color variations like natural Lynx.

Though I've posted a number of colored furs I really like.

Don't have any of my own however.

Dense Coyote trimmed out with White Fox is my favorite. The colored furs just don't do it for me. I think they would be like a garment, once you wear it a few times, it becomes boring. I also know colored furs oxidize and fad. Just don't look the same after 5 years or so.

If I am at a ski resort Fox cubbies are great in colors! Or for formal wear the dyed accent pieces are incredible too.

But, for everyday wear, I personally wear mink vests as a regular item. I wear it in place of a sweater or light jacket.

If you have ever seen the beauty of high-end Stone Marten or Fisher or Lynx, Oh, my!! Or velvet mink. These furs are so very incredible. Check out all the natural shades of Fox. Natural, in the end just can't be beat.

Having never seen a dyed Canadian lynx, I would be curious to see lynxette's pink 3/4 coat. However I generally prefer natural fur colorations. One exception for me among dyed furs is Crystal Fox.

For me it all depends -

I really like all the natural foxes, the natural colour of a coyote or racoon. But sometimes it is also interesting to have something in colours not belonging to the natural variety:

a dark red dyed fox, a blue jeans dyed mink or some fur dyed black because the original is just too irregular - at least it can be used for a fur instead of beeing thrown away

Then there are i.e. the rex rabbit as natural brown which are REALLY interesting as well as the white rex which looks best when coloured - white will yellow out in all? furs.

I must say my favorite furs are natural, deep colored furs. As far as died furs, it's usually a case of whether or not it captures something new in the fur. So I'd say I'm 70 natural, 30 dyed.

I like both natural and dyed furs. I prefur natural furs, but I have seen some fantastic dyed furs (including my own crystal fox coat).

I love crystal fox (which I think is typically brown dyed indigo fox) and brown fox and black fox (which I think are typically dyed blue fox).

The only dyed furs I would hesitate to purchase are furs like "dyed" or "color added" ranch mink and furs dyed loud, outrageous colors (bright red, yellow, green, etc.). Regarding the former, I have read that inferior ranch mink pelts are often dyed to mask flaws. Regarding the latter, I think I would tire of a too brightly or bizarrely colored fur much sooner than I would a natural or more subtly dyed fur.

My two cents.

One that I generally do not like with dye is blue fox. The tips of the fur are so much different colour that it comes out very dirty, or unkempt looking. White fox can be very beautiful. Like spotted, blush, snowtop, etc. Those are beautiful colours, because the hairs take the dye so beautifully. But blue fox with a brown dye for intance can really be ugly as I see it.

Just a personal preference I suppose though.

I saw for sale on e-bay a fur jacket made from hamsters..

I have a phobia for rodents..and I think that made me an immediate dislike for me...(yes I know hamster are cute pets.. , I am just very scared of little things that scurry )

The coat had some strong colours but the pelts were so small.. there were lots of changes in colour in a very small area.. and this had an 'over powering' feel.. the jacket looked.. well.. over coloured and too strong in colour changes even though it was a real and natural pelt..

did anyone else see this coat..

What you are describing Bandy is what I LIKE about Fitch so much.

Fitch are bigger than a Hamster of course but it does have a strongly varied color/pattern.

There's Muskrat or what you brits call Musquach? Trapped those as a kid.

But blue fox with a brown dye for intance can really be ugly as I see it.

Interesting observation, WF. I have seen and tried on several black fox garments (which I've been told were dyed blue fox) and really liked them. I have only seen photos of brown fox garments ... But in the photos they looked very nice. I have actually been contemplating having a brown fox coat made for me for next season. I still may (as mentioned previously, I'm also considering having a red fox coat made for me) ... But if I do I think I'll approach the project with caution (making sure the pelts receive a superb dye job!).

On a related note ... Is there a web site that lists all the natural (and maybe dyed too) fox colors? (There may be a link I have overlooked.) The number of fox and mink colors can be daunting. It would be nice to be able to compare natural red fox, (what I think is) natural Sunglow fox, fisher dyed fox, etc. My furrier has samples of roughly a dozen fox colors (including dyed pink!) ... But I don't think his samples reflect the full fox color spectrum. It would be nice to know which specific pelts to request for comparison.

I have a vest I wear around the house which is brown dyed Fox I'm certain.

It was a jacket at one time I guess but it's without a lining and the skin is uniform brown as in dyed.

I like it a great deal. It's soft and the color is very nice. Quite monochromatic but still rich and very soft.

I could imagine a whole jacket or coat that way.

JG, I remember at least one or two sites in the "Informaton Sources" Links page of our site. However, I cannot remember the links. I tried to find them tonight and that area is so big it makes it difficult. I think that ReFur might remember where they are.

Dyed furs in bright colours are gross. I find that they tend to be too flat. Natural furs have a depth tone wise that doesn't replicate when dyed. Crystal fox is an exception to the rule maybe. I have only small number of dyed furs , all of which are linings.

Speaking of hamster, I have a mens coat lined with hamster fur. It looks awesome. Many friends comment on on it

Foxkid, I agree with you re: brighly dyed furs. I would never consider purchasing a "neon" green, orange, yellow, pink, red, etc. fur. But I would consider purchasing a fox coat in a more neutral or masculine color like black, brown, or maybe even navy blue.

I think crystal fox is an unusual (and desirable) dyed fur in that the brown dye is used as a sort of "wash" (for lack of a better word at the moment) that enhances the natural color variation of indigo fox fur. Applying brown, black, or navy dye to blue fox coats results in a uniform color. I already own silver fox and crystal fox coats ... So a solid brown or black fox coat would be a unique addition to my wardrobe. But so would a natural red fox coat. Decisions, decisions. We shall see ...

Generally, I prefer natural colored fur but furs dyed in natural colors are okay. However, there's always the exception to every rule.

(Click the pic!)

In this case, the color of the fur (red) compliments the wearer's clothing and overall skin and hair color. It also fits in the surroundings too.

I certainly wouldn't like to see a whole coat made of red fur but, as they say, you should judge the whole package. On Anna Netrebko, it works well.

Thanks for the links, Linda! I'll have to check out all the color variations. Some of them I am not familar with either (but they look beautiful!).

Some of the Shadow Fox pelts I've seen at Ungar Furs are the most incredible fur of any type I have ever seen.

If you look straight on at it all you see is a near pure white but if you tilt it and look across the fur you indeed see a 'shadow' cast over it.

I don't think even Sable is finer. In fact I could imagine a mixed coat or fur of a dark Russian Sable and Shadow Fox.

Natural red fox.

There's a color to rival molten lava or live coals.

Generally I prefer natural colors. Crystal fox is one prominent exception.

I have just bought 4 more furs... two arrived yesterday....one of them is a coyote.. not with a hood..(which is my favourite look).. but it is a pleasant little jacket...

The colours are really great... so nataural and so deepand changable..

from red through brown to grey.. I love the subtle colour drifts...

This jacket will photograph amazingly and I can't wait to get some shots done in it for my erotic fur website....

I have never owned a coyote before and the fur is tought and resiliant.. not soft as i would have thought....

it was quite a different fur to what I had imagined...

anyone else got a coyote..

I've had a major attraction to the natural browns, tan and blacks. A woman wearing a big full fluffy long tanuki coat drives me crazy.. as does her in a raccoon, lynx, coyote, indigo fox, well, all the mixed shades.

I think it is something that Brandy touched upon in her coyote discussion. It's an "outdoors" primal kind of feeling. The solid coats, though beautiful and always appreciated, just don't seem to be as alluring to me..
