furrycocoon
Having been a member of this site for over a year now and only just starting to post(I know, shame on me).I was wondering just how many people regularly post.If not for our wonderful moderators I think this site would die a death.I realize a lot of the members have followed fur on the internet for maybe 5-10 years now and am becoming maybe a bit jadede with the same questions over and over, but we should ALL try to make an effort to post.I realize that this may go on deaf ears, but even if only 10% of the non posters post, thats a sharp increase in posts. This is non fur season now so this is as good a time as ever to increase your post count. Zaphod_bee
I totally agree; I have been a quiet member for a long time, but you can only participate by expressing yourself with posts; I can only encourage every silent member to post since you can only get reactions by this. For myself I didn´t get the reactions on my post ob "furry dream" I hoped, but after all it is a way to share thoughts and get some reaction after all Zaphod_bee

AKcoyote
A few statistics to aid this discussion: 576 members have logged in at some time in the last 30 days. 324 of those have made at least one post since they registered. Only 178 of the 576 have made more than 20 posts since registering. There have been 1,538 posts in the last 30 days. Only 34.51% of registered members have logged in within the last 30 days. ReFur
furryraccoon, sometimes we feel that way!! In fact, it absolutely true without the admins alone we would fold. White Fox and AK have spent more time on this site than anyone could know. And, that is ignoring their posts. The gallery would pale in comparison without OFF's tremendous commitment. Wallee and FLinFL are on like clock work. Worker has taken on a role here that few probably can understand in backing up and assisting AK. Of the few sites I have visited, the moderators all are major posters. Their involvement is what leads them to eventually become mods. But, sometimes it would be nice to get our silent membership voices!! Linda
White Fox
Come on folks! furrycocoon has posted a note asking you to come on in and join him! Where are you all. Surely one of you at least out there will become a member, and join us so you can reply to him. I have purposely avoided this topic as it is just as Furry says. You folks hear from us far â™ too much! I am waiting for some of you folks out there to come on in and take up the challenge and join us. I will guarantee you will love it here. You receive no unsolicited emails. You will have access to our full site for free. Please take the challenge, and come on in and make furrycocoon's day by replying. You will be so glad that you did! lynxette
There are probably as many reasons for people joining this or any other interest site on the web as there are people, and not all of those reasons involve posting or otherwise being public. One only needs to watch the news to hear the horror stories about what bad things may happen to going public on the net. That being said of course it may appear to those who do choose to be very active that they are carrying the load so to say, and that this is not entirely fair. I would respond that the operative word here is choice, and that a few of the main functions of a site such as the Den is to provide a safe, fun, entertaining and relaxing atmosphere for all of its membership with their varied levels of interest and comfort. Some will choose to be very active, whilst others will not. I suppose it is possible to make rules that require a certain level of participation, but these may not lead to the desired outcome as it may cause fewer people to join in the first place. I certainly agree that active participation from many individuals is highly desirable, but I do not believe it possible to force this issue. I also join in giving my thanks and encouragement to those who post, be it often or not.
Worker 11811
This is such a great question! AKcoyote has given us some statistics on posting in the forums. I can also tell you what countries people who visit the Fur Den come from. It would take some time to boil down the statistics into a digestible form but, if people are really interested, I can do it. However, it's safe to say we have visitors from all over the world. Even Japan! The question that comes up in my mind is, "What REASON do people come to the Fur Den?" I can tell you from the statistics that nearly 30% of the people who visit the Fur Den look at pictures in the gallery. There are also a lot of people who browse the forums but do not post. But, for me, the Fur Den is a place where people can stand up and finally say, "I like fur!" but nobody will put you down for it. When I first came here, I was amazed to find out that there were so many people who like fur and who are turned on by it. But the thing that REALLY amazed me was when I found out that the people here are NOT the stereotypical "weirdos" I was afraid of finding. In fact, I found out that fur lovers are often just the opposite. The number one, most important function of the Fur Den, in my opinion is to help people understand that it's okay to like fur. It's okay to like to touch fur. It's okay to be turned on by fur. And, yes! It's even okay to have sex with people wearing fur! Because of that, I work pretty hard to be sure that the Fur Den is as safe as I know how to make it for people who want to talk about how fur makes them feel. I work pretty hard to keep out interlopers and anti-fur fanatics who would try to mess up our website and to harass our members. I know it's not possible to have 100% security unless we want to turn this website into "Fort Knox". That's just the nature of the internet. But, on the other hand, I think most people will be pleased to know that we have a relatively low number of people who harass us and there are also very few security problems. For a public website, we are about as safe as we can be, unless we completely "lock down" this site. But, if we did that, we'd be defeating our mission statement. Wouldn't we? So... Let's answer a question with another question: Who is posting at the Fur Den? Stand up and tell us your story! We don't bite... much.
AKcoyote
Worker reminded me of something I forgot to check when gathering stats for my previous post. In the past 30 days 608 members have accessed the Gallery. Thus it appears the Gallery is more popular than the forums.
brandy-uk
I would imagine that one of the strongest draws to this site is the 'great' gallery..after all we are all seeking a little 'world of fur' for ourselves... Perhaps people are so excited by the time they finish looking through the gallery they have no 'steady' hand for chatting in the fur den??? brandy xxxx
auzmink
Furrycoccon raises a good question - how to re-invent the wheel? A look back at the forum archives would reveal the same questions returning. So how to expand the wheel to attract more forum activity? Should we have a separate section with the 10 most commonly answered questions being intermittently re-hashed. This would give new members time to check old answers, see what has already gone before and perhaps add to it. Should we have a section on 'New Ideas' I for one would love to see an expansion of us doing more with fur - creatively. I want to know how to sew pelts, make simple articles (cushion cover for example), a section on how the pelt gets to us, tanning issues - perhaps 'An idiots guide to Fur' Maybe our hidden members could add to these options. furrycocoon
Auzmink made a great point.I started a post called "List your furs" thinking that the last "list your furs" topic had been erased.A moderator pointed out to me that it was still active, yet I didn't know where it was.If that could remain a sticky,it would be useful. Also i think "how it all began" would make a great sticky as well.Or what about replacing the photos section with a commonly asked questions sticky consisting of the above. Also a "how to sew fur" etc would be great as well. White Fox
Both areas are available readily in the Library. Maybe we need a separate index for them. Problem is that if we make a sticky to that URL in the Library, it adds to the number of those, and many members here do not like sticky messages that stay forever. We need one on how to post pictures, one for Advertisement messages, etc so that number increases very quickly. would like to hear the comment of others here. W P.S. You will recall our old favorites forum. That is exactly what it was, but no one ever used it. It was deleted when the Library was formed, as that format seemed much better suited, as we can add, subtract, or veer messages in a different direction that way simply moving things from here.
