furrycocoon
Anyone had an incredible experience in a furrier. No need to name places if you don't want to.But ever had a chance to really ingulf yourself in that huge fur that was love at first sight or anything else you'd love to share.I'll start it off.A furrier I had visited a couple of times over a weekend,(I was on vacation at the time) had an incredible full length lynx that was to die for.well the older gentleman who owned the shop had taken a liking to me (believe me,I could tell) and said i could come back any time.Well,I did.He let me wear the fur for at least 15 mins while we chatted about furs.he couldn't take my eyes off me as i stroked the fur constantly and nestled my face in that huge collar. It was one of those insanely expensive furs that you dream about. But over that weekend his eyes lit up as I came back again and again to see that coat.(He thought he was going to get lucky).Poor guy,I teased him so much, but it was worth it to experience that amazing coat. Guest
I have that experience every time I go to Ungar Furs. Shelly and Kevin can vouch for that. He has at least one incredible men's fur every time I've been and they are handed to me to try on every time My fav is the full length Beaver I've talked about and the mammoth Silver Fox that dragged the floor on me [i'm 5-11]. A fur tent. He has a lot of other spectacular furs like very large women's minks that fit and I try on. Horst is a deep well of fur knowledge also. He did the Lynx lined hoodie in The Gallery of mine. OFF
lynxette
YES!!!! Fortunately I have had the opportunity many times, but the wonderful experiences and feelings have not changed or diminished one iota. Getting a new fur coat is truly one of life's treasured moments to be repeated as often as possible in my book.
shelley and kevin
Shelley and I have been to Ungar Furs so many times I can't even count........Every time we go in and he shows us some new item he's made or someone has brought in to have made. I've seen couch cushions covered in fur, a red velvet santa suit with white tibetan lamb, blankets, you name it. We've even talked about Christmas stockings made out of red sheared nutria with white fox trim:) As of now he's done 3 new blankets for us and made one full length blue fox coat into a blanket and six coats if I am counting correctly maybe seven........Oh and three fur pillows...........The only bad thing is that storage/ cleaning keeps costing us more each year as stuff gets added.......... Guest
My girlfriend and I went to a fur salon in Canada last fall. I was a little nervous about my feelings becoming too obvious as we tried on some coats. I was totally enjoying a coyote coat when I seen my lover slip into a full length silver fox. I was a little intimidated by how regal she truly is! That was sexy!!! She only wore the coat for a few minutes. [she said it was too hot] Believe it or not I stayed in control , The trouble began when I noticed a very large fox stole with four fluffy tails dyed bright red. She asked me in a whisper if I wanted her to wear it. I told her it was not a good idea. Moments later she's modeling the stole! I was embarrassed when her and the sales lady were giggling at me! I felt myself turning red and closed the coyote coat. Edited January 16, 2013 by Guest
alphonso
I went in a few when in Canada - just to window shop really as I was travelling light as a tourist and would never have been convincing as a buyer. I had mixed experiences - as a single male it seems a bit silly going in to a furriers . Anyway I expressed an interest in fur fashion and the owner was most obliging spending some 20 minutes explaining all about the trade. My jaw dropped when they lit up the back of the shop - the furs just went on and on. That was in Toronto. Really really nice people, but to my shame I cannot remember the name of the business. In another the assistant just laughed at me. In Montreal I went into a fur salon in a big shopping mall. The assistant was gorgeous and there was a moment of sexual tension - i could invent a fantasy here. The next one in Montreal - in the old town- I made a purchase of a blue fox hand warmer that would fit in my travel bag. The ladies in the shop were really friendly and one of them took me to one side and said that in Montreal I could have anything I wanted - ANYTHING! The mind boggles. Overall I'd say that Toronto's fur district was the best and it is in charismatic china town too. Isn't Purple Shoshana there somewhere? I looked but didn't see it. FurLoverinFL
Tom over at Florida Fur & Leather is terrific! I first went to visit his shop one Saturday. While the store was closed, he was busy taking care of a few things inside and graciously opened for me. Even though I was just dropping a few coats off for storage, he took the time to show me around his entire shop... the areas where furs are cleaned and repaired and the showroom (not much there at the time... I suppose one can't expect a lot of furs to be on display in mid-May in Florida). But the highlight of the visit was being allowed in his fur vaults. What an unbelievable experience, getting to spend some time with the owner, looking through fur after fur after fur! Many thanks to Linda for recommending him! WinnipegFur
I've got mixed reactions when walking into furriers as well... it seems most of the stores here are dominately run by men.. I usually find the women furriers tend to know why men are there When I first purchased my coyote parka, there were several full length fox coats I was itching to try on, the furrier insisted that those furs were designated specifically for women... When I took one of my coyotes in for repair, I went to a different store wearing my coyote parka and was complimented by the woman working in the store saying she loved my coat! In late March I went into a different shop that was apparently closing, with one woman working.. I wore my coyote parka in.. she never really said much about fur... there wasn't much there for mens , but there was an awesome full length fisher coat I was dying to try on and hinting like crazy, but she didn't get the hint I guess I should have been more assertive and insisted on trying it on
fur999
I have also had mixed experiences. Only twice, the first was very positive. Was in Corfu, Greece. The last place I expected to see furriers, but there must be 5 or 6 in the old town. We (me and the mrs at the time, the same as in my story in FFA!) visited several. One drew my attention especially when walking past one different day and there was a tall slim gorgeous brunette trying on a full length mink in the street. The furrier wanted her to go outside to see how the fur looked in the bright sun. It shone! her mum was obviously buying it for her. We returned a few weeks later (were living there at the time) and was struck by a short bodied, long armed very fluffy dyed green fox jacket. She tried it on nervously, and looked stunning! The furrier was more than happy to help, een though he was closing up due to to retirement soon. Shame, because the jacket was on sale due to his retirement, and I thought about buying it for her as a suprise. I went back the next week to buy it, and it had gone! was gutted... Just last year, I was travelling around the Rockies in Canada, and whilst having a day off in Banff, got away from the group I was with, and went looking for a furrier. Foundone with some gorgeous looking foxes but mainly mink (more of a long fur man). After walking past 3 times looking in, I finally went in. I was obviously by my self, and looking a bit scruffy due to my travelling light, so the lady looked a little shocked. I asked if they had any mens furs (even though I wanted to try on the full length foxes!), and got shown quickly to a small rack of mans jackets at the back of the shop. They were all horrible, mostly mixed with leather, with elastic cuffs, and all short haired furs. She didn't even ask if I wanted to try any on and I did not feel confident enoufgh to ask. Maybe if I was dressed smartly, it may have been different, or if I had been with a girl. Who knows? So a note to furriers, don't be snobby. It takes all sorts as we all know 999 xxx
don
went to a local fur salon in Atlanta today. Found a great full-length ranch mink that needs some alterations, can wait for cold weather! The old guy who runs the place is very nice and accommodating.
White Fox
It is unfortunate that the story of the furrier telling how "Those coats are designed for women only" is an experience you can have though I have found mostly very infrequently. The worst that I had was a store in northern Ontario where a furrier told me that the only coat that would work for a man would be otter. NOTHING else could be used for men. If you do run into that, I advise that you simply leave the store and go to another. There are plenty of stores out there who would like to deal with men as customers. Generally now when I go into a store, I tell them straight out what I am looking for. If it is fox, then I tell them that. And usually that gets us off on the right track right off the bat. As mentioned, I as well prefer to have women waiting on me. I remember one time just itching to try on a lynx and white fox coat. I tried it on and it fit so well. I had the hood up and all. I could not resist trying a huge white fox muff sitting right there with it, and just as I did the sales gal came around the corner with a customer. Before I could say anything they were both telling me how great it looked on me. And the outfit really did. As mentioned here so often. If you find a coat that looks good on you, you can go ahead and wear it. It does not matter if it is white mink or blue fox or lynx. A man can wear any kind of fur or combination if it looks good on him. NEVER be afraid to try on something, or ask about a coat for yourself. Don't think that the furrier will think you crazy. Almost without fail he will not. And if he does, that is his problem as he probably just lost a chance for a nice sale. The chances of you finding one of those guys though is fairly slim if you go in with a very positive attitude. W
