Brandy,

Good morning - that was a quick reply! No the outfits were all bought, borrowed or donated. Most of the non-fur and fake fur outfits came with the original dolls but a few were made by independent sellers. The real doll furs were sourced online and as you'll see as you flick through the rest of the photos you'll see I have a few diiferent types of doll furs now including mink, fox, sheared beaver, sable, lynx and chinchilla.

I love it Mr. Mockle

Really neat...and it is facinating how a mink at that scale can look s much like fox. Gives one a whole new appreciation for it.

All,

Thank you for your kind comments and I'm glad to see that the doll photos have gone down well so far. Criticisms, comments and suggestions for future doll shoots are more than welcome.

The furs were quite easy to find, some but not all through eBay as OFF said and some through doll reseller and collector websites although naturally I don't want to reveal too much about my sources; bidding can already be quite competitive among doll fans and collectors and I recently lost out on a bid for a similar jacket to the Jitrois fur jacket Beyonce wore a couple of winters ago. The best doll furs can get expensive too; this last winter I bought a large full (human) size mink coat for around $150 but the long black mink coat with matching hat for the 16" dolls cost me over $200! Looking at the results it was worth it though! The minks do look delightful on the 16" dolls especially; I think the lunaraine and brown minks look more like sable on them. Sadly the fox and lynx coats I have do seem a little over whelming on the dolls at their size but if trimmed or shorn slightly they too would be fantastic.

When I next get a quiet weekend I'll probably try a variation on the fashion show I have already done - featuring a fur catwalk show, naturally arranged and hosted by Cruella de Vil.

Mr Mockle

All,

Some of you may be interested in seeing my newest dolls in fur photoshoot; this weekend's featured 16-inch fashion dolls in a furrier setting. The update goes back just into the fourth page of images, where you will also find the end of a previous Barbie catwalk set including some fur pics too.

Looks fantastic! So often photos of dolls in furs look strange as the length of the fur hairs is just too long when put into the context of the size of the dolls. So everything looks way out of proportion. However, those are beautiful! A few furriers might think about using them some time.

WhiteFox,

Thanks for your comments. You are right that the longer haired furs often look too shaggy with such size dolls and although I have a few fox and lynx items for them I use them sparingly. The shorter of the lynx jackets seemed to come out well on the Mrs Coulter/Nicole Kidman doll though I thought, but generally the minks are much more photogenic for the dolls (a few looking more like sable at that scale). I've still to work on the lighting a little and develop some more sets for the various size dolls but I was happy with the look of the fur salon set; some of the shots towards then end of the scene featuring the brunette sales assisstant, the Mrs Coulter doll and the redhead with the beehive hairdo (sadly I didn't have the glasses for the full Sarah Palin look!) are I feel among my best ever, including the human modelling shoots!

Foxkid,

I'm doing pretty good thanks and I hope all is well with you. Drop me an email sometime or catch up through Yahoo Messenger.

I wonder what it would look like if you "Sheared" the longer furs. On a larger person, it would not work as you would see it immediately. (Though a very thick fox has a real appealing feel to it.) But with the scaled down size of the doll, it might just work. The brain might just accept it as real.

W,

I'm not sure about the longer haired furs but I do have a sheared honey mink with golden sable collar, pictured here. It's also the one that Mrs Coulter walks off with while wearing the lynx jacket towards the end of the set and you see Alex trying it on earlier in the scenario too.

Mr Mockle..

That is such a great photo... I love it... The honey mink looks perfect.. not out of proportion to the doll at all... how long does it take to prepare and make one of these doll - furs..?

Brandy,

I have no idea how long it takes to make a doll sized fur coat as I don't make them myself. I would guess it's a good bit quicker than a human sized one and of course will require many fewer pelts per item - and the smaller accessories might even be just craft or off-cuts from other fur garments. Do enjoy the other photos too for the comparison of how different fur types look at that scale.

Brandy,

The thread was just to introduce my new angle towards fur photography and notify everyone of the best new shoots as I do them. The furs come from a variety of sources: some eBay sellers, some private sellers and some were the original outfits for the dolls (although mostly the fake fur ones) but no I don't make them.

Mr Mockle

That was GREAT! I say keep on with the lynx and fox!

Before the questions about acquiring the furs, I was going to ask if you made them.

Keep up the good work!
