Unfortunately merging topics is at the moment a very risky and error prone procedure. Future software changes will make this easier and less risky to do, but as of now it is not. We would like to point out that messages posted in the wrong place may have to be deleted in the future as this merge is only something we can do in extremely unusual circumstances. Thanks all.
