White Fox
Was just on the Netscape site. I use it for one site I have to go to as FireFox freezes up once in awhile on that site. Noticed the following. Official End of SupportGiven AOL's current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it's the right time to end development of Netscape branded software. Read the history page for more details about this decision. I've used either Netscape or FireFox for almost endless years. Hate to see it end! Worker 11811
The Mozilla Foundation is, for all intents and purposes, Netscape under a different name and Firefox, being one of its signature products, is essentially Netscape communicator all grown up. By now, Firefox should have completely supplanted Netscape Communicator. I find it odd that Firefox can't do some things that Netscape can. There must be something else going on. Are you sure that it's within Communicator or Firefox that the problem lies and not some difference in settings or plugins? For instance, are you using an older/outdated version of a plugin that causes problems with Firefox? Also, don't forget that just because Mozilla Foundation is no longer "officially supporting" an application doesn't mean you can't keep using it. It only means that they aren't going to be making any new versions or updates to the program anymore. I regularly use (or am forced to use) some very old software. I have computers that run Mac OS 8 and OS 9. I just switched one of my home computers to OS 10.3, even though Apple's currently supported OS is at 10.4, soon to move to 10.5. At work, I have a computer that runs Windows ME. There is one that runs Windows 98. There are several that run XP and/or Vista. The computer I am using right now is an old Windows machine that has been converted over to Linux. I plan to convert others to Linux as soon as I can. Heck! I even have one computer that runs on Windows 3.0! There are several turnkey devices in my place of work that run on DOS! : Computers may get old and the software that runs them may become outdated and, eventually, unsupported but that does NOT mean they won't keep working if you take care of them. The Mac I use at home is nearing 10 years old! It's had two hard drive replacements, three firmware upgrades and several additions/replacements of RAM and other peripherals but it is by NO means too old to keep working. I still use it every day. You can still keep using Communicator for the near future. You may be able to use it for the foreseeable future, even. You're just going to need to be more aware of its limitations and how to work around them, given today's newer software. Can you give me any ideas what site you're trying to access? Maybe one of us can offer some hints.
Guest
I use both Mozilla FireFox and Thunderbird. Have been for some time now. They have gone through an evolution with the latest of each being quite super. In Linux/Debane they are bug free and all the other crap the WindowZ folks wrestle with all the time just doesn't happen. A friend who uses XP also found that using FireFox/Thunderbird made many of his WindowZ issues disappear. I have XP on a separate hard drive for the few things I need for peripherals uses. I never use it to communicate with the outside world other than the Media player when I'm doing a bunch of scanning. I have FireFox there as well. No mail service however. Every time I'm there I spend half my time dealing with those damn upgrades and the Virus software. Spend more time on it than I do on the reason I'm using it in the first place OFF
Mr Barguzin
Damn.... a bloke is away for 19.5 months and it all falls down arond him Not that I know use Netscape, but as a bloke what used netscape navigator4, Gold Communicator nos........ well, until Firefox appeared. Also used the precursor for a bit as well. Must say that it was the best available then and probably would still be today had not Firefox come along. But like all things involved with the net, what once was now isn't.... well, with the exception of windows and its habit of getting attackes of the grumps or not liking what another program quite fairly is trying to do. Yeah, am having trouble with the latest version of Thunderbird..... can receive but niot send. Am not alone either, judging by MozillaZine forums LOL Anyways, Vale Netscape..... Long Live Mozilla!!!!
