fur999
Has any one seen the Sex and the City movie yet? I believe it has just come out here in the UK, and may have beeen out for longer in the US. The TV series could normally be relied upon to provide atleast a few scenes of Carrie (SJP) in a nice fur. Does the movie provide the same? If so, I may brave the crowds of women to see it. Actually, I think I have just sold it to myself!
Ulti
There is fur in the movie from the clips I've seen. A white coat worn by Kim Cattrall, which gets red paint thrown on it by a protester in one scene. I can't quite tell if it was real or faux though. brandy-uk
just seen the movie.. Not really too impressed.. I liked the tv series..but felt this just wasn't the same..! I just hope the younger generation who missed the fur and paint throwing 80's and early 90's will not pick up on this scene and try to replay the protests over and over again.. that is the last thing we need to see again..! kisses brandy xxxxxx
Worker 11811
I just hope the younger generation who missed the fur and paint throwing 80's and early 90's will not pick up on this scene and try to replay the protests over and over again.. that is the last thing we need to see again..! To be honest, I have never seen anybody throw paint and I have only ever heard anybody holler nasty things one or two times in my memory. As far as I know, paint throwing is just an urban legend in these parts. But... Then you have to remember... My wife and I are both known to carry concealed weapons. Those kinds of people would necessarily walk a wide circle around us. And that's the way I like it! In terms of security on this board, we have only ever had one or two small blips on our radar since I have started working here. Don't forget that the general public can not see what goes on inside the "Fur Freaks Anonymous" forum. Only registered members who have special permission to do so can go there. I would never boast about security here but, in my opinion, we've got little to worry about. If we made the analogy of this website being your house it would be the equivalent of keeping the doors and windows locked. If somebody did try to smash a window and break in, we'd hear them before they got too far.
White Fox
That did happen by times in some areas, along with endless harassment of folks, following them down the street, etc. I agree that that we certainly do not want that to happen. Problem was that I think most people who did that were not thinking. But there are some that way. Just last winter, on the street side I saw two people doing an antifur demonstration of their own harassing motorists, etc. I do think that finally many people have smartened up and really began to think "Just what am I supporting here anyhow?!!! It is beginning to be harder for these PETA folks indeed. However, we need to remember that these can be violent people. Indeed terrorists. So, when they are cornered the might become dangerous. So we need be careful. As for the movie I have heard a number of negative comments and some positive. It may just be that even the movie folks are realizing now that they fell into a PETA trap and people are resenting that. Let's hope! W
ThoughtFox
I haven't seen it and perhaps I am mistaken, but I imagine that the scene is basically the film makers saying, "Don't think for a minute that we are in any way pro fur!" They want to have their cake and eat it - they want the glamour of fur in the film but they also want to avoid any possible controversy surrounding the film. It's cowardice, really. Worker 11811
I haven't seen it and perhaps I am mistaken, but I imagine that the scene is basically the film makers saying, "Don't think for a minute that we are in any way pro fur!" Y'Know... I think there's a lot to that! Sort of like the way Cruella deVil in "101 Dalmatians" got her comeuppance at the end of the move. If you ever watched the old "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" TV series on late night television, you'll know that, no matter how devious the crime the villain was always brought to justice even if it wasn't by the police. On rare occasions when the villian wasn't caught at the end of the tale, Sir Alfred, himself would always add, "Of course, the police eventually did catch up with him...", to the end of his epilogue. You may be right. It sounds like they are doing the same old thing all over again.
RonGav
My wife did drag me to see the movie last weekend, and true, Kim's pretty white mink swing coat gets a dose of red paint as she leaves the Fashion Event. Typical Hollywood submission to the P.C. world in which it exists. And to make matters worse, "Samantha" almost shurgs off the incident with some sort of comment I can't remember. I was so annoyed at that whole scene. And Carrie does wear her classic fox (?) coat out on New Year's eve to console a depressed Charlotte, or was it Miranda? It's all a blur. Again, lip service to furs where other costuming got big play.
Joe
"I miss New York!" -Samantha after being covered with red paint in her white mink coat at Fashion Week. sigh...I think this was Kim Cattrall's "punishment" for messing up the development of the SATC movie for all these years. That and the industry kow-towing to the AR nazis. Oh well. I loved seeing the "classic" Carrie Bradshaw yellowed-blue-fox feathered "vintage" fur coat that the aforementioned AR nazis made her put away in (gasp) 1999! Seeing SJP embrace Cynthia Nixon in a brief furry hug...was a pleasant surprise (and these scenes were before the Fashion Week nonsense). Being the only guy in the theater, however, was another surprise. I took my Mother and Aunt while vacationing last weekend; both of them love fur, and commented on the sable scarf Carrie wears in addition to the knit rex-rabbit shawl from the Fashion Week scenes. But we were all asking, "where are the men?"... It's not a bad movie. Suck it up and go see it, gentlemen. J.
brandy-uk
I went to see the movie again.. and it seems that Carrie is wearing a very similar jacket to my coyote? in one of the scenes... I really should try to find out what fur it is.... kisses brandy xxxxx
fur999
I have got over the anxiety of sitting in a cinema with a over a hundred women and less than 10 guys, and am going to see it with a female friend next week, although I did not necessarily point out my true reasons for wanting to go! I did enjoy the series secretly, a guilty pleasure (anyone listen to BBC Radio 1?), so may even enjoy it even if there is minimum fur count in it. Will report back, and save others the pain of sitting through it if it is not worth it. and Brandy, will try and sus it out for you... 999 xxx

Joe
Anxiety? This many women in one room at the same time for the same purpose...should be an empowerment tool, not just a battle cry. I hadn't been in that kind of environment since my friend directed The Vagina Monologues! And no sign of cheesy 90s Grrl-power, just women celebrating love! Or...love...of... ...the battle cry. "CHAAAAAAARGE! ...IT!" or: "Buy-stuff-so-you-can-be-like-Carrie-Samantha-Charlotte-and-Miranda-(and-Louise-too-!)-because-if-not-no-one-will-have-sex-with-you!" sigh. I'm going to see it again. ciao. JGalanos
I finally saw the movie. Pretty good (there were cameos by a few of my favorite actresses). Samantha's white mink was beautiful ... Watching it be spattered red was painful. Carrie also wore a nice (I think it was) rabbit scarf during one of the scenes.
Worker 11811
Just saw the movie this evening. It seemed to me that the paint-throwing protesters were being charactatured. I might even go so far as to say that they were being made fun of. They were the typical middle class female activist types. Somewhat homely looking. Dressed in frumpy clothes. They had wild-eyed looks and shouted nonsense as they waved their signs. It was pretty clear to me that the director and the writers were not portraying the protesters in a positive light. In fact, when Samanta gets paint thrown on her, she makes the comment, "I miss New York!" BTW: What was the long, brown coat Carrie wore? My wife liked that one. I think she wants to buy one like it.
