Le Mans this weekend

Well if you guys have not already noticed I am kind of a motorsports fan. This week is one of the greatest races of them all with the 24 Hours of Le Mans taking place on private and public roads in France. Sports car racing is like none other with four different types of cars running at four different speeds. So everywhere on the track faster cars are passing slower cars so if you like passing this is the type to watch. Teams will buy a car and put all of their budget for this one prestigious race.

The race has been held since 1923, except during WWII, and has been twice around the clock every time. It does not matter how many laps you have run it matters who is in first when the clock strikes four p.m. There is also heartbreak as these cars are pushed to the limit to last 24 hours much like last year when the race leading Audi lost a tyre at 100mph and crashed.

There will be coverage this weekend on Speed Channel in the states as well as Motors TV and Eurosport throughout Europe. I suggest watching the nigh portions because you get to see how visual the racing is with fire spitting out of the tailpipes and the brake discs glowing bright red under pressure.

So, who's your money on, Deedok? Peugeot or Audi? Peugeot has reigned supreme at Barcelona, Monza and Spa (Belgium) but can Audi (or Porsche) pull it off in France?

If Peugeot have fixed their gearboxes, which I'm sure they have by now, I can not see them finishing behind an Audi this year. The closed cockpit cars are faster by sheer aerodynamic principles. The qualifying time Sarrazin produced is just mind boggling for me. They have not seen those type of times since the old Group C days with no chicanes. Now race pace will be a different story and that's what Audi's excuse was for their qualifying times. Track position is not as circuital at this circuit then a tighter one. If they were sandbagging it's hard to tell, all I know is if he has any luck at all McNish will be up there fighting. He has always been quick since his win in 1998 but has had horrible luck since, but look for him to go quick and possibly a triple stint.

By bet is on Peugeot this year, Audi have taken the prize for nearly eight straight years. I'm not counting the Bentley because it was the same engine as the R8 and was built from the 1999 Audi coupe programme. Look for the Czech run Lola Aston Martin though to possibly steal a podium if the top dogs break down.

So what do you guys think about my prediction? I was pretty close on who won and mentioned that McNish would be a factor again. Just a shame that a rear wing failure ruined the Lola Aston's race.
