greenman667
Don't know if this is new, but I've never seen it before. Hope there are people who find it as new as me. Enjoy. http://www.shubtour.ru/catalog/?group_id=
FrBrGr
It's a new one for me, too, greenman! Good find! Thanks! We should include this in our "links" section.
White Fox
Yes, it's in our links area now. It is an unusual link. Since the text is Russian, you cannot see it. But if you go exploring in there you will not believe how many photos that you will find and most if not almost all are new. Indeed, a great find. JGalanos
But if you go exploring in there you will not believe how many photos that you will find and most if not almost all are new. Thanks fur the heads up. I clicked on the link and it all looked like gibberish to me ... But after reading your post I clicked again and did some huntin' and peckin' and found numerous photos. mailonfurs
These are fellow furriers from Kastoria, Greece. Many tour agents in Russia like this one, offer tours in Greece with the option to go to Kastoria and purchase a new fur coat. You wouldn't believe how many Russians travel here just to try on the famous Kastorian furs and buy them directly from the source.
JGalanos
Kostas -- How many Kastorian furriers are there these days? Have their numbers declined sharply over the past few decades similar to what's happened in the US? Are they feeling pricing pressure from China? Just curious ... mailonfurs
After the fall of the Soviet union and the demeaning price of the Russian rubles a lot of businesses closed down. But still many are in business, alive and doing well just like MAILON. Can't provide a number but we are still a lot. For example, we do process here today the 10% of the worldwide pelts. As for the Chinese, indeed they are affecting our market a lot. Not only they produce cheaper furs (minimum labor costs and cheap but lower quality Chinese produced skins) but they also nowadays opened to the European skins market and are contributing in increasing the prices of minks. However the level and quality of the Greek craftsmanship is unrivaled therefore we do not worry much.
White Fox
I will alter the description of the link to reflect what you told us, that it is a Russian tour company telling of a number of Greek furriers.
