White Fox
Don't know how many of you have tried Firefox 3 yet. It is so much faster than other browsers. It is beyond me why ANYONE would want to fool around with Explorer. It is pretty much unbelievable the difference. Give it a try folks, if you haven't. Worker 11811
Firefox three was available for Linux almost a month ago. I have been using it since the first week in June. It is good. It works well and it's not too much different than the last version. I use it on a relatively slow computer and it doesn't take up too much memory and resources but it loads virtually any page I go to on the internet. I also recommend users dump Internet Exploder and user Firefox! According to website statistics, about one third of the people who visit our site use Firefox. samurman
Firefox three was available for Linux almost a month ago. I have been using it since the first week in June. You mean beta versions and then release candidates? They were also available for some time for Windows as well, but AFAIK Firefox 3.0 was just released for all platforms. In fact, they applied for a Guiness world record for the title of most number of downloads on the first day of a software program's release. In the meantime, may I suggest our fellow denizens to checkout the Firefox Portable, available at portableapps.com? Those with privacy concerns will love it, because it requires no install, can be run from a USB flash drive or an external harddrive, uses no cache, and when shut down, leaves no trace at the host computer. You can even use it alongside a regular Firefox installation.

FrBrGr
Is it available for all Windows, including Vista?
Worker 11811
Try it out by downloading it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ If you can't download it from this site because of too much traffic just wait for things to slow down. So many people are jumping on the bandwagon that their servers can't keep up. Remember, samurman said they were trying to set a world record for the most downloads. AKcoyote
Remember, samurman said they were trying to set a world record for the most downloads. That is over. It was an attempt to set a first day download record.

White Fox
Two things. ***FrBrGr. The great part of browsers also (as you obviously know) is that you can use any number of them. If you should by chance find some little hidden thing that does not work on a particular computer with Vista for a short time, you can instantly go back to Explorer for instance. It is extremely unlikely you will need to but that is possible as you know. My laptop is on Vista and I have not switched it from "2" yet as I seldom use it if I am not traveling. But very soon I will. ***There is only one thing that I don't understand. In a recent news item it was suggested that approximately 25% of people use it. Yet everywhere I look people are getting on the band wagon. Of the people I know there are very, very few who do not use it. Seems to me that number should be more like 50%. Worker 11811
Did you know that half the people on Planet Earth make up 50% of the world's population? Statistics are easy to manipulate. They say that Windoze takes up 90% of the population of computer users but that only counts if you include all the computers in use at businesses. But that doesn't take into account that many of those businesses have contracts with companies like Dell to lease all their computers from one source. Of course, they're all going to be Windoze! Duh! But, if you take out the business market and include only the home/personal, the academic/research and the graphics/video markets the stats go the other way. 30% of home users have non-Windoze machines. 40%-50% of the academic market and 70% of the graphics market do not use Windoze. In most research environments, the great majority use Linux. So, if you go crossing up your statistical data you can get seemingly nonsensical numbers. There are probably two reasons I can think of why your statistics don't seem to make sense. I know a lot of people who use FF at home but not at work. Those people can jump on the bandwagon by convincing their employers to use (or let them use) FF on their work machines. Most I.T. managers will allow it even if they don't officially support it. There are also a lot of people who use it and don't know it. To them it's all "computerstuff". Somebody else set their computers up for them and they just use what's given to them. They may be using Firefox to browse the web and don't even realize it. Then, when they see a big banner on a web page: "JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON!! Use Firefox 3!!" they "switch" even though they are already using Firefox 2 If you go through this website's statistics you get this: Microsoft Internet Exploder = 68% (MSIE 7.0 = 53%) (MSIE 6.0 = 15%) Firefox = 22% Safari = < 3% Opera = < 1% Other = ~ 6% (Approx. 2% of the "Other" category includes system overhead.) ----------------------------- Total = 100% But don't forget, this does not take into account whether people use multiple browsers, either on the same computer or on different computers. (For instance, from home and when they are away from home.) This does not take into account that Firefox is a multi-platform program where MSIE isn't. The "Firefox" category counts users whether they use Winblows, Mac or Linux. If you use MSIE, you must be a Windoze user. (Except people who use very old Macintosh computers, Pre-year 2000. MSIE 6.0 and MSIE 7.0 are Windoze-Only programs. MSIE-Macintosh would be listed under the "Other" category.) Unless I delve deep into the stats (which I don't want to do) we don't know the exact numbers. The short answer: Our stats seem to line up with what others report. Approximately 20%-30% of the people who come to the Fur Den use Firefox. (It depends on how you add up the columns whether that number is higher or lower.) Guest
I have a dual hard drive [actually three] with dual boot to ubuntu Linux which I use most of the time and WinDowZ XP. I use the XP for my Scanner operation only since Linux is still not as 'universal' for Externals and a couple of specialized software packages that only run on WindowZ. Otherwise I don't use it at all. I'm reminded every time I'm there how clumsy and cantankerous it is just to do the simplest things.
