I think this viking game is pretty much the first video game I know of that has fur clothing in, as fur itself (like hair) is kinda hard to animate in cgi. I think they should definitely have more games witth fur in, if you ask me!!

Sorry I haven't been in here for the last few days - am recovering from a fur meet over the weekend..

Anyway, I guess there hasn't been much call for fur clothing in video games, but furry characters are pretty much ten a penny... Kinda sucks really :9

PS Where do I report for my spanking then?

Fur is really tough to render on computers. It takes buttloads of number crunching to do it all but it takes a metric shitload of computer power to do it well.

When the Pixar movie, "Monsters, Inc." came out Sully's fur became the gold standard for computer rendered fur. Everybody thinks it's easy but it's not. I've been trying to duplicate that look on my computers since about the second day after I saw that movie. Haven't even come close!

As much as game consoles have increased their CPU power and graphics rendering technology, they need to use their power for running the game. Gamers demand responsiveness from their machines. Taking the time to render fur would probably slow things down too much for most people.

re worker;

That's why my more recent scanned pictures are such large files for certain.

An issue we have overlooked in our site band width issues.

You think just DISPLAYING images of fur takes power? I'm talking about rendering... CREATING fur. Drawing it from scratch, strand by strand.

Sully's fur contains several MILLION individual strands. The position of each and every strand has to be calculated and drawn 24 times every second!

If just showing pictures of fur takes a lot of work, rendering it is exponentially more difficult.

I've got a pair of fast PowerMacs here. It takes 8 to 10 seconds to draw one frame of a simple image containing fur.

That would be unacceptable for somebody trying to play games on an XBox.

I turned out the Gamecube (and therefore the Wii) is pretty good at rendering fur. Look at the fur-trimmed outfits worn by the Selkie in Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles.

Even though the PS2 wasn't as good, there was a decent attempt to render it in real time in Final Fantasy X with Lulu's infamous impossibly low cut leather dress, with a brown fox neckline. It looks much better in the pre-rendered scenes, though.

It has been shown a bit as early as the 8-bit era.

The ending of at least the NES version of Shadowgate shows the princess in a white gown with a white fox neckline.

You can see a modified picture of the ending here.

Or the queen in Battle Chess. Just look up the game, and see some of the cover pics.

A recent interesting one is a combination of furries and wearing real fur. The Ice Princess in Spyro A Hero's Tail is an anthropomorphic fox, who wears and ermine trimmed gown. I don't know of an in-game pic on the web, but this is a good rendition on Deviant Art.

Interesting topic.

I have only encountered fur as "sexy garment" in videogames once. It made one of the best videogames I have ever played an even more enjoyable experience The encounter was from Final Fantasy X (10), worn by the playable character Lulu, a black mage and summoner guardian.

EDIT: I missed LordTheNightKnights topic up here, and thus his mention of Lulu already! Also, nice to see more encounters of fur in the gaming world. Will have to check up on Spyro for sure

There is fur trim in Lost Planet produced by Capcom for the 360.

That actually made the issue of fur shading clear when it was shown how the PS3 had trouble duplicating that shading, at least from the early builds of the port. I'm not sure if the PS3 version is out yet, but I think they solved that issue.

Don't know if anyones seen those MMO sex games - but you can buy fur outfits on there... costs money though so that kind of threw it out for me.

The only thing recent i've played that has fur, sorta, in it.. is Grand Theft Auto 4... you can buy a russian bomber fur hat for the main guy, but thats really about it...
