Games and furs

How well we all remember the old Games Shows and the Furs sold on them in the '80's. What a time to remember. Well for those who did not see it as they are too young. And for those who would love to remember, I found a clip in our new video area of one from the US. It may surprise some of the younger folk here who the host is.

I hope you enjoy this. It is unbelievable the entertainment in that Video area now. The Gallery, the Video area, The Library and the rest of our links area have so much information jam-packed into them. One can get lost for days, and never see anything twice without even coming to the forums. Everyone has done such a fantastic job in sending us links, information for the Library, photographs, and videos.

I remember a mother daughter pageant years ago, and the winning pair had black mink jackets draped over their shoulders.

we actually gave away some furs back then at greek television. It was a game called "The Big Bargain" or something like that, on which you would chose a curtain and find your gifts or Mr Zong where you lost everything. I remember the exitement on womens faces when they found a brand new fur coat behind the curtain. We also sponsored a couple of shows (New Years Eve etc)

I do not have any footage of that on digital form but I'm sure I kept video copies. Perhaps I'll find a way to trasform these and place them online sometime

I remember several times where the prize was a car, and Bob would reach into the front seat and pull out a fur.

I never saw one of those episodes. That would have been a very nice bonus!

There are two of those shows that really stand out in my mind. I am not sure if either was "Price is Right". I know one wasn't.

That was one where there was a contestant who won a long full length white fox coat. The host of the show put that coat on and commented how "These furs are so great. This would work for a guy too. Look at this!" I never forgot that.

The second was an episode where someone won three mink items. I cannot remember what one was. However, one was a mink couch. Totally done in pastel mink. As I recall it was the older pastel mink colour that they used to call pastel. It was much lighter back then. A beige colour That couch was a "Rollaway" with a fold up bed inside. And, the host (This one might have been Bob Barker) pulled out the couch, and inside was an incredible female pelted pastel mink coat. There was one other mink item as well but I cannot remember what it was.

However, those were too pretty remarkable shows to say the least!

First - is Zinman furs still around in Camden New Jersey? Geeez that brings back memories.

But to you old timers -- do you remember THE BIG PAYOFF on CBS TV back in the 50's where the prize was a luxurious mink coat modeled by the former Miss America Bess Myerson? She would come down this huge staircase and make a grand turn and open the sweep of the coat showing the back... Holy moly I had to be only 6 or 7 years old but that mink coat made me tingle every day ! I was doomed from then on.

I drove by the store when I was with some family out east, I wanted to go, but I'm not "out of the fur closet" to them.... I tested a few of their opinions when we went into NYC for a few days, but they didn't seem to have an opinion either way.... so I never got to go into Zinman's....

If you were visiting NYC with friends and family, it might have been a bit much for them to drive the 1 1/2 - 2 hours south to visit Zinman's. Keep in mind, Zinman's is in southern NJ, across the river from Philadelphia.

me and my roommate from college would always watch it and would always make the loser jingle. i always loved it when bob would get pissed at the contestants.

I have never been to Zinman proper, but I did go to one of their hotel fur sales in Cherry Hill a few years ago. There was not a huge selection of men's furs, but I must admit I was tempted by a fisher jacket that was semi-reasonably priced.

That was the show that got me hooked. I was about the same age. The first time I saw Bess Meyerson model a floor legenth mink coat, I knew this was for me. I've been in love with furs ever since.
