LordTheNightKnight
This is just a little fun thing I whipped together. Ten furs in film I think are the best of the films I've seen, and I've seen quite a few. Just before I start, I did have a few rules: 1. The fur had to be in a movie of course, and worn by a lady. 2. The fur had to be real. 3. It had to be in the foreground. 4. It had to be worn, and not just held or draped over something. 5. It had to be on screen for at least five seconds. 6. If more than five seconds, at least five seconds must show most of the fur. 7. I had to have seen the film, or at least a few scenes including the one with the furs. As for what puts a fur on this list, I am noting that style and elegance is the most important factor. If you don't agree with this, you are of course free to make your own list. Heck, make a list even if you do agree. This is just for fun. 10 Batman Returns The Ice Princess's outfit. Normally, such so-called cheesecake outfits don't strike me as elegant. Sexy, especially if there is fur, but rarely elegant. The design on this outfit, and the tasteful way the fur is added as a trim puts it on this list. Too bad the character was portrayed as a total bimbo. 09 Casino TIE: Sharon Stone's white mink swing coat and Erika Von Tagen's white rabbit coat. The first is on the list because it's the one I like best of the furs Ginger wears. The other furs she wears in the first half of the film are nice, but the ones in the second half of the film are usually worn when she's screaming like one of those drunken trailer park wives on Cops. Not much elegance there. So in the second half of the film, the white rabbit jacket her daughter Amy wears is my favorite fur. It may be worn by a ten-year-old, but I explicitly stated that style and elegance is the main thing for this list. This isn't about whether the fur is a turn on. I find that coat actually does make her look like a little princess, even if a mafia princess. 08 Beauty and the Beast Belle's fur-trimmed cape. Okay, it's technically fake, but it's an animated film. This cape gets on the list not only for looking good, but getting away with a prominent heroine wearing fur in that time, although I'm not really a fan of the film itself. This also set off a wonderful trend of the Disney Princesses wearing fur-trimmed dresses on their merchandise during holiday seasons. 07 The Stuff The fur coat parade. This gets on the list for sheer numbers. Loads of furs in just a few minutes, yet almost all of them do get enough screen time for our eyes to take them in. And although I question some of the models, the coats I can't argue with. 06 Working Girl Katharine Parker's sable coat Although it gets on the list for being worn by Tess McGill, who borrowed the coat, but that's fair play, since Parker tried to steal Tess's idea. The point of the coat is the amazing contrast for when she does where, and how she looks at the beginning of the film. If you've seen the film you know what I mean. 05 All I Want For Christmas Thora Birch's white rabbit muff. Again, this may be worn by a little girl (Birch was about 9 at the time), but I'm grading it for how good it looks. When her character, Hallie tries to go to the store Santa to correct what she thought was a wrong wish, she goes out in a red coat with black trimming, little white gloves, and a (relatively) large white rabbit muff. It's a really great outfit, and all style. Also, there's a blooper where she drops the muff, but she's holding it a few seconds later. 04 Designing Woman Lauren Bacall's mink dress. Yep, a mink dress, worn to a boxing match. The film is a comedy, by the way, but that outfit gives the film its name more than any other. 03 The Bad and the Beautiful Gloria Grahame's white mink wrap. A mink wrap was a prominent luxury for a woman to show off at the time. Even Queen Elizabeth II wore one in public a lot. And in film, one of the my favorite is the black velvet lined, white mink wrap that Gloria Grahame wears in this movie. Lana Turner's fox trimmed dress is more well known, but it's design just strikes me as a little silly. This wrap is anything but. 02 Snow White and the Three Stooges Snow White's birthday skating dress. The film was an obvious attempt to rekindle the magic of Sonja Henie's films, but I do find Carol Heiss's skating dress tops them all. The fur may be limited to the neckline and her hat, but throw in an ermine muff that she wears for about a minute, and that makes it the second best outfit on my list. 01 White Christmas The dresses worn at the end. If you've seen the movie, you hopefully know what I mean. If you haven't, see the movie. Those dresses... those dresses.
fox4me
I think for sheer legenth of time,"Butterfield 8" deserves to be mentioned. Liz Taylor spends most of the movie wrapped in a very nice sable coat. I couldn't even tell you what the plot is about, but I've seen it three times!

Guest
The Woody Allen film -Alice- where Mia Farrow walks around most of the film in a monster dark Sable. There are others in super furs too. It's a very enjoyable film on top of that. Ingrid Bergman wearing several fine furs in Hitchcock's Notorious. A great B&W. Dark Victory with with Betty Davis slinking around in a number of furs. Another very moody B&W. Check out the film lists in the wiki Library for many other super films OFF
RonGav
I too thought of Liz's mink in Butterfield 8.. heck the movie starts with it! Also I love Ann Margret in Carnal Knowlege. Was it a lynx.. or fox? Or is my mind totally going dark.
furqueen2000
I would have to add the Bitch & the Stud. Not great films but it was seeing Joan in all that fox that got me started on furs. I have never looked back, unless of course to catch a glimpse of a woman in fur!
Worker 11811
This just occurred to me in one of those "Why didn't I think of that before?" moments... The opera, "La Boheme"! In the last scene, Mimi comes down sick and is lying in bed, breathing her last breaths. Her friend Musette sells her pearl earrings to buy Mimi a fur muff so her hands won't be cold. Mimi spends the last moments of her life in bed, surrounded by her friends, stroking her fur muff. "Finally! My hands are warm! The fur is so soft!" are the last words she sings before she expires, letting the fur fall to the floor. Although it's not a lot of fur, I've got to put this down as one of the best fur scenes in any production, just for the sheer sentiment. Oh! Wait! It gets better! I look up "La Bomeme" on IMDB... and what do I find?" Check it out! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1157547/ La Boheme is coming out as a movie some time in 2009! Plus Rolando Villazon and Anna Netrerbko are playing the leads! Anna Netrebko can sing that opera standing on her head! And she looks hot as hell to boot! [image]http://thefurden.com/cpgfd/albums/userpics/10364/thumb_Anna_Netrebko-dgik.jpg[/image] Okay... Rolando Villazon isn't anything to sneeze at either but he's nowhere near as hot as Netrebko! The website says it's in post production. I hope it comes out in wide enough release that we'll at least be able to rent it on video!

lynxette
The interesting thing about lists such as this of course is that there will be a top ten list for as many people as care to enter one, and since it is all based upon personal taste and experiences none are objectively wrong, but will undoubtedly stir great conversation. My list would include Mr. Magoo, The French Connection for a wonderful lynx, the Bitch, Northern Pursuit, Ice Station Zebra (both of which include great guys in furs, although this may be against the rules as stated by the thread originator), Mad Miss Manton, Beverly Hills Madam, Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe ( I want his silver fox even if he doesn't ), Road to the Yukon?, and a great 1940's movie set in the Laurentian ski slopes of Quebec where there asre simple too many furs on both men and women to count. If any one can help out with the Title I would appreciate it.
Mr Barguzin
Whatever happened to the old color Picker?? *Sigh* I know... I promise I'll be good. Now.... the post Speaking of operas, there are several filmed versions of European stage productions that feature a healthy amount of fur. One features the leading lady in a full length Silver Fox.... and believe me, if porno directors/producers used fur in their films as the Silver Fox is used in that opera....... Ummm Cookie might be in trouble *grin*... Or a millionaire. I know... Now you wanna know the name of the opera, and I have been racking my brain (it was a good three years ago I saw it [i think])... the couple are on top of a roof..... and one jumps..... Any help from opera buffs??
MAINLYMINK
Yes, Lynxette, it all very subjective, I know; but I am surprised at some of the omissions here -- as well as a few mistakes. First correction (sorry to sound like a know-it-all: I could be wrong): Melanie Griffith in "Working Girl" wore her boss's coat -- hardly a sable! Secondly, ditto for Mia Farrow in "Alice", although there one or maybe two sables on show in that film -- like when she went to collect her child from school -- and it was a magnificent coat, (Mia's), too! I agree with whomever brought up Elizabeth Taylor in "Butterfield 8" -- but also "The VIPs", in which she wore a grey or white mink-lined affair (very nice). Likewise, that beautiful sable (Russian, surely?) in "Cocktail"! Whoah...gorgeous! There was an obscure French film in which Romy Schneider wore a sable coat throughout much of the movie: also very erotic in parts: I think it was called "The Passerby" in translation? In another French movie, many years ago, I was hugely excited to see Sophia Loren take her lover to a quiet country spot, remove her full-length mink and throw it on the grass; as they snuggled down, they realised there was an audience: telephone line worker up the nearby pole! Quick exit...(such a shame). What about Sharon Stone lying next to Bobby De Niro on the bed, wearing her long white mink in "Casino"? That was erotic, I think. And did anyone see "Tough Guys Don't Dance"? Ryan O'Neil actually screwed some blonde bimbo whilst still fully-clothed in that, she still wearing her mink coat! Yes! "Once Around", starring Holly Hunter (the blessed Holly Hunter) and Richard Dreyfus: wore mink in that one whilst out on the ice! "All About Eve", in which Bette Davis wore a sable coat much of the time; "An Affair to Remember" -- didn't Deborah Kerr wear mink in that? And who remembers Melanie Griffith's mum Tippi Hedren in "The Birds" wearing a grey mink jacket? The was a suggestive scene in "The Night Porter" when Charlotte Rampling's mink coat was still draped across the bed after her night with Dirk Bogarde. What about Susan Sarandon wearing mink to dinner in "City Hall"? And Catherine Deneuve having a rather lesbian moment on the floor in "Seven Women", wearing a mink stole: rather voyeuristic fun, that, for a short while. Oh, and what about Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson in her lovely mink coat the leopardskin scene (I hate to see leopardskin coats -- they look so much better on the animals, those!) I bet I'll think of more to write on this theme...we'll see. Excuse my resurrecting an old thread?
mendez99
Loved Bette Midler´s fox coat (cross-fox I think) in "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" http://www.imdb.com/media/rm373070848/tt0090966

dongleboy
How on earth did I miss this thread?! Most of my favourites have been mentioned but there is a Catherine Deneuve film called ‘A strange place to meet’ which features her wearing a gorgeous mink for most of the movie. Alas, it’s not, to my knowledge, been released on dvd and I only have an old vhs tape. There’s another Deneuve movie called ‘The Last Metro’ where several of the female characters wear lovely furs. I think it’s available on dvd but is expensive.
