My account on Facebook was disabled!!!! It was open for about 10 days under the name MAILON FURS. Made some friends, did not bother anyone, and listed some ads too. Someone ANTI aparently reported his fur-hate and my account got closed!! I am really pissed off!!!!!

Why was my account disabled?

Your account was disabled because you violated Facebook’s Terms of Use, to which you agreed when you first registered for an account on the site. Accounts can either be disabled for repeat offenses or for one, particularly egregious violation.

Facebook does not allow users to register with fake names, to impersonate any person or entity, or to falsely state or otherwise misrepresent themselves or their affiliations.

We do not allow users to send unsolicited or harassing messages to people they don’t know, and we remove posts that advertise a product, service, website, or opportunity.

Our Code of Conduct outlines the types of content we do not allow on the site. This includes any obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit photos, as well as any photos that depict graphic violence. We also remove content, photo or written, that threatens, intimidates, harasses, or brings unwanted attention or embarrassment to an individual or group of people.

Can I see the content that got me disabled?

Unfortunately, for technical and security reasons, Facebook cannot provide you with a description or copy of the removed content.

Does Facebook remove everything that gets reported?

Facebook reviews every report we receive to determine whether or not the content violates our Terms of Use. Any content that is considered obscene, violent, malicious or otherwise offensive will be removed. If you received a warning about an item that was taken down, then we have established that it violated these terms.

Don't you just love the way folks hide behind rules and regulations and act according to them, but when questioned can produce only references to the offence, not the actual offence itself. It is without doubt the greatest showing of lack of intestinal fortitude that can be shoved down individuals throats. What can be done? Simple. Send them an obscene message, where what is said is totally inoffensive, but reads at a glance like it is the most offensive piece of garbage to ever cross their desk. Keep a copy, and then when they reply. with all sorts of threats..... tell them to take the letter to their lawyers with dictionary in hand so they can show themselves to be the crappy little sheep droppings that they are.

*puff puff pant pant*

Gee I've missed this *grin*

On a serious note, I remember when good ol' Geocities closed a site because it was me repeating myself. Strangely enough, it was actually all done under another name of a person living in Canada, a real live person. Sure I'd copied basic files and emailed them to her, but she did all the rest. But.... Oh and they quoted several breeches of the CoC.... so I fired of an email with a pic of the statue of David..... and heard nothing more from them. Of course they didn't reinstate the account..... or so they thought WEG

And yes, it probably was some pre-pubescent cretin who was upset... and probably knew someone who knew someone, or else threatened them with having ALL his/her friends go to whatever the newest site is.... and Rupert wouldn't like that LOL.

Much as it hurts me to say this...... Bite the Bullet..... suck it in.... and go again VWEG

Send back a message telling THEM to delete the part of the site that was against the rules, and to put the rest back on. Since they will not tell you what part violated the rules, and you have searched and searched endlessly, and cannot find ANYTHING that violates the rules that they have given in their replies. Come to think of it, we should have a project where we look for anti fur sites and report those due to political views, etc.

What constitutes a fake identity with regard to a site such as facebook? I have never been on any of these and have only heard about them through the media, mostly in negative terms about how they can be used to violate privacy etc. I would not however put it past them to delete someone whose political (fur?) views differ from the PC.

I don't do Facebook. Just never got interested. But FWIW, don't they have "commercial" accounts where people can list their businesses? (Or something like that.)

I know several artists and musicians who have things like that.

It might be worth looking into.

i hate to burst in all fairness to facebook, the rules clearly state zero tolerance for a service, company, website, etc, etc.

that may have been the reason for the closure of your account. i personally belong to many pro-fur groups on facebook and none that i know of have been shut down

My account on Facebook was disabled!!!! It was open for about 10 days under the name MAILON FURS. Made some friends, did not bother anyone, and listed some ads too . . . Why was my account disabled?

I have never been on FB, so I don't know if other commercial ventures have accounts there, and if they do, to what extent they use FB to advertise, and the resulting consequences (if any) for their advertising. It seems to me, though, that FB answered your question with these statements:

Your account was disabled because you violated Facebook’s Terms of Use, to which you agreed when you first registered for an account on the site . . . If you received a warning about an item that was taken down, then we have established that it violated these terms . . . Accounts can either be disabled for repeat offenses or for one, particularly egregious violation . . .we remove posts that advertise a product, service, website, or opportunity.

First of all, and most importantly, I hope you're able to get your account reinstated, Kostas!

I would also like to add a sidebar. Sometimes, I think that members get really upset with the moderators and admins of this site for enforcing the Code of Conduct as conscientiously as they do. (From time to time I hear members whining about the Den having "too many rules.") Kostas had a very bad experience with FB's "Terms of Use." Our host also has "Terms of Use" by which White Fox, the owner of this site, has to abide. That's why the Den's Code of Conduct was established. While not all of the Den's rules reflect our host's Terms of Use, many of them do. White Fox and his moderators are therefore "under the gun" 24/7/365 to make sure that this code is enforced. We should be grateful that they do the great job that they do. I know all of you, like me, don't want to wind up wondering one day why the Den's account was disabled . . .

You're better off anyway.

Facebook is a lovely way to collect all kinds of information on the users of the system. For this reason, I've never even visited the site and never will. Anyway, it would be much easier to just give them your social security. drivers license and passport numbers along with all the information you have on your family and friends (or acquaintances, really -- how many people on actually know and have some sort of viable relationship with all their supposed Facebook "friends").

Maybe they could just implant a Facebook chip right in our bodies so we're always connected to our close, personal friends whom we couldn't possibly communicate with without the supreme guidance of Facebook.

I have to say from a business point of view there is little value in FB for most businesses. While it's not as bad as my space, it's just full of uni students posting pictures of them and friends pissed, and a way to waste time in uni classrooms. While FB apps seem to be all the rage for web developers at the moment, for 90% of the companies deluded into thinking a FB presense (apps, group etc) will help them, it is a utter waste of time. I'm saying this from a web developer who's had some experience in seeing this.
