Playing Music Yourself

Hey folks

 

As kind of an off-shoot to the music lovers thread, I was wondering if anyone else here can play an instrument, and if so what tunes can you play? I recently decided to try teaching myself to play the guitar and bass, and am slowly getting the hang of a few tunes with varying levels of success. Got to admit, despite having truoble playing "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" by The Darkness, I am thoroughly enjoying trying to play it!!

 

So - does anyone else have musical leanings?

Man, I tried to master the triangle once but never could quite get the hang of it!

 

Wow. One time could play a guitar, piano, and organ. Could not play a note on any now as it has been so long. Sorry for off topic but....

 

My favorite is pop or modern music played on a pipe organ. Anyone here ever had a chance to hear that? It is not often one gets the chance, but man, that is so great!

Church music is the curse of a pipe organ. But, modern or pop music. It is unbelievable what a really good organist can do on one with modern music if they really take the time to learn how to do it!

 

Reminds me of the old theater organs. Many movies used to have intermissions in them. At that time a theater organ would rise up and a guy would play fast theater music on the organ right in front of the screen. Then, as the movie began again, he would drop down again out of site. Saw it once at the Odeon Charlton in Toronto. A night I will not ever forget! Stems I guess from the silent movie era!

I took a couple years of piano lessons when I was in junior high. Never got very good at it. I "peaked" with a medium difficulty version of the Elvis classic Blue Christmas ... Which to my family's dismay I did not limit to the holiday season.

I played a trumpet for many years. High school band, then when I went to college I joined the marching band, concert band, orchestra and brass ensemble. Also played with a dance band. After college, I played for a short while with a popular music group. We had one recording that made it into Billboard's Top 10. (Can't reveal which one because of identity and anonymity concerns . . .) That was a lot of fun!
