Purchasing a fur item via internet from a "foreign" furrier

I'd like to know if anyone has done this and about your experiences. Also, have an of you ever dealt with the two furriers/designers I'm about to mention? I saw a beautiful silver fox hat for 120LS (will have to convert that to U.S. currency) on the Gauja Furs website. I think they're in Latvia. I also saw a beautiful muffler, available in red, white, or blue, by Tarja Niskanen, a fur designer from Finland (Google "Tarja Niskanen, Maker of Winter" to see her designs) with three rows of five dyed blue-fox pom poms at the fringed edges. Her "snowball collection" is nice, too, but no prices are listed on this site, and my e-mails haven't been returned.

Yes I have. From Canada quite offten but from Europe as well several times.

All my experiences hade been good.

The advantage of eBay's PayPal is the funds are converted automatically and without extra charge.

Quite different from my experiences many years ago when I had to go through the funds transfer and shipping issues.

Even more recently when I purchased a high end phono cartridge it was a bit of a hassle without PayPal.

See if you can get them to take payment through PayPal. It doesn't have to be an eBay sale. I did that with Ace of Suedes in Vancouver, BC when I had them do work for me.

Hi furbabe,

Canada is the only 'foriegn' country from which I've purchased furs. I've never experienced any problems. The key is to work with a reputable dealer - I don't think it matters where in the world they happen to be located.

I have so far had just one such experience and it proved most satisfactory.

I was keen to obtain a full length mink coat, reversible to fur lined raincoat, and I had had no success in finding what I wanted either here in the U K or in North America.

I took advantage of the opportunity of discussing my requirements in detail with Kostas in the Fur Den, and he made for me exactly what I wanted, and I have been delighted with it.

He was obviously pleased with the outcome too, and you can now see this among the Men's Furs on the mailonfurs website.

I too have a question for other fur denizens. I have long wanted a full length crystal fox fur coat, and by far the nicest crystal foxes I have seen on the net are those offered on the MadisonAvenueMall website, but even those of you who are in North America, where most of the internet furriers are located, can only buy from them 'unseen' over the net.

Has any one in the Fur Den bought furs from them ?

Finally a thought for White Fox - I am sure it is not a new one.

In the light of the huge benefit for the buyer in dealing remotely with a furrier with an active presence in the Fur Den - and how lucky we are to have Kostas from mailonfurs with us - surely such a presence can be in the interests of the furrier as well.

Would it be worth while for White Fox to make an approach on our behalf to a few of the furriers with a large presence on the net, including MadisonAvenueMall with their very large range of furs, to invite them to participate actively in the Fur Den in this way ?

lovingfurs;

Getting such a Fox as you describe would be probably best gotten from Kostas or my favorite Nicholas Ungar Furs.

Both produce very fine furs at a 'good' price and both have impeccable taste. Both are listed in our Furriers wiki lists.

With Ungar or Kostas you could email them a picture of what you wish and your size. I'm sure they will service you well.

The advantage for you ordering from the US is the staggering difference in currency value.

would be happy to help

Just for the record, we do sell online since 2000 and we still are proud of our 100% positive ebay feedback which means that for all those year we never actually dissapointed any of our customers. Also, almost 99% of our online sales is for foreign customers.

If you folks need anything I'll be happy to help
