mailonfurs
can anyone explain to me what is going on with this website? They've bought all the furs.'whatever' domains and their site is rarely (or not at all) updated. I wish I owned that domain.... is it maybe for sale? I doubt it. But if its not then they should get more serious with it.
Worker 11811
"furs.com" is registered to a company from New York City. Its registration expires in Aug. of 2009. It appears to be a "parked" domain. "furs.org" is registered in Canada. Expires in Mar. of 2009 It is parked. "furs.net" is owned by the same as "furs.com," above. Expires Dec. 2009. Since the current owner of a domain name has first chance at it when it expires, you might not be able to pick it up when it expires. However, if he does not renew in time, you may be able to swing down and pick it up. If the current owner does not give up the domain name you can still approach him and try to buy the name from him. Many times, people "cybersquat" just so people will have to pay for the privilege of using a certain name. This is all like one big game of chess. Now! The good news! You might be able to get the domain, "furs.eu." It is registered and parked but it just seems to be a formality. I can't find the name of an actual person who owns it. (The ".eu" suffix is a newly created domain suffix for members of the European Union. Since Greece is in the E.U., you might qualify for an ".eu" suffix. ) Neither the "furs.gr" nor the "furs.co.gr" domains are registered to anybody. You might be able to pick those up for a song. Don't take my word as gospel. I only made a quick "whois" check of those domains. You need to find a domain registrar and do a through search. But, at least, there some info to get you started. mailonfurs
from my experience it is impossible to 'grab' an expired domain like that. They would not leave it so easy. As for furs.gr it is registered and it belongs to Greek Furriers Organization. Furs.eu I don't think that would be easy to get too. It is already taken by someone. Thanx for the heklp though. Will be keeping an eye on these
Worker 11811
You're right about "furs.gr". Don't know why I didn't catch that. I wouldn't say it's impossible to scoop a domain name from somebody but it doesn't happen very often. I've seen it done but it is not the norm. It's probably a lot of trouble to go through for just a silly name... More trouble than it's worth.
samurman
furs.com was one of the first fur sites on the internet, more than ten years ago. I remember viewing its pages using a 33.6kbit dialup modem on an Intel 486 machine running Windows 3.1! True, the photos would be considered thumbnail size given today's broadband standards, but then, it had great stories from fashion shows, informative articles, and helpful advice. It's sad to see it not gone...
JGalanos
Given their alleged "mission" I find the lack of updates baffling.
