fur999
Well, g'day all you northerners (assuming no members in Taz or Antartic!), Since moving over to Australia from the UK just under a month ago, I have been absent from the den and missed it greatly. I obviously have a lot to catch up on, there have been a lot of new posts in the Den and my other favourite areas (FFA and Brandy's), but as I only have public computer access at the moment and am in the library, some may have to wait. Main reason for calling in is to say I am pleasantly surprised with the amount of fur spotted over here since arriving. The weekend after arriving back in early August, I went to a wedding with my gf (who looked beautiful in a bridesmaid dress) and was very surprised to see one middleaged (40 ish) lady in a silver fox shrug/bolero jacket, an elderly lady in a full length brown mink with blonde mink closure and collar trim, and a very convincing fake mink jacket (not real, but convincing to the untrained eye). It was a chilly weekend, sunny but breezy, and I was cold in just a shirt. Later on in the evening, one of the groom's sisters in her twenties, doned her granny's full length mink to keep out the chill. I couold not resist to go over and chat, dropping in a comment that she looked a lot warmer in fur, but not pressing the issue. Last week, while walking through Sydney CBd, there was a memorial tribute to armed troops of ANZAC, and spotted a lady in the crowd in a stroller length jacket of patch coyote or fox. She loooked very elegant, and warm! And no-one was bothering her. The only looks she was getting were admiring ones from men, myself included. Also, there are a lot of fur trimmed hoods around. In the UK, almost everyone under 30 weras a jacket with horrible cheap fake trim, whereas here, it is the same but mostly real. it is so noticable, my eyes are drawn accross streets to the movement of a real fox trim. Also, on Castlereagh Street which is the posh shopping street with Gucci etc, there is a shoe shop displaying a manikin in a classic red fox jacket and a pair of killer heels. Brilliant. So all is not lost, and I would say that I have seen more fur on the streets in the last month in Sydney, than a whole winter in the UK in the past. It is getting warmer now, so I expect this to reduce, but it is good to see still. Once I get a job (starting next week) and earning, I will be looking to find furs for me and the gf to enjoy. Not sure what the ebay/second hand market is like here, and I have looked through the phone book for furriers, but none seem to be here. Love to all, and I look forward to catching up with the recent happenings in the Den soon. 999 xxx
Mr Barguzin
Bugger Furs Seems like this Oz should get out more.... and head south more often. Then again, when I do make the sojourn south, all I seem to see is fakes. So that means I am going to the wrong areas. AH well..... (Now if he finds a furrier...
