Cheaper furs in times of recession?

Amongst all the doom and gloom of impending global recession, is a ray of light to be found? Do you think the prices of furs will fall? Will a fall in demand lead to furriers having to offer discounts, or will we have to wait a while for the effects of the slowdown to sink in?

Or is fur immune from the slowdown, as a luxury item? Generally only the rich can afford them, and they will still be comparatively better off than the rest of us.

Will any slowdown only affect the prices of coats that have already been made, that are hanging in showrooms, taking up space? Or will it cause reduced prices all round, including custom designs? I have plenty of designs I would like to ask a furrier to create for me!

As the costs of pelts, labor, utilities, etc are going up rather than down, I doubt there will be much downward movement in the price of fur garments. That is except for those furriers who are desperate to liquidate some inventory in order to pay their bills.

In my opinion what will happen is that sales of the the lower priced fur items (slippers, scarves, etc) that many people could afford and that many furriers depend on to stay in business will be reduced to where there will be more furriers forced to close permanently.

You also may see prices on "Previously Owned" furs drop out of necessity and desperation.

eBay, Craig's List and other used fur sellers will be fertile shopping grounds

Maybe I will be able to find that Sable I've always wanted cheap

From what I've heard personally and have read I would not expect furs/ pelts, new anyway to drop much if at all. In would expect to see more furs though on ebay and the like up for sale as people get rid of things they may think they can live without to help cover some bills, etc.

None of ours are for sale well except for maybe my men's Raccoon coat...............Just don't want to continue paying storage on it. I already have the Fox coats and the sheared Beaver............We'll see........................
