Remodeling a "pinched" cuff

I have a full length fitch coat which I love, but I'm not crazy about the "pinched" sleeve cuff. I'd like to have it remodelled into either a "turn-back" cuff or a straight cuff. Would the present cuff configuration make this a difficult task? Do you have any recommendations as to these or some other cuff style?

I think you need to take the coat to a furrier who does remodel work and ask your questions there.

The answers could depend on how the sleeve was originally made as that might limit the options. Also there is always the problem of locating pelts for the new cuffs that match the garment in texture as well as color which can sometimes be difficult.

I'm sorry but what do you mean by "pinched" cuff?

I'm assuming she's referencing a cuff style that "narrows" at the wrist (you see these on ebay occasionally -- usually there's a relatively tight "band" at the end of the sleeve). I assume this serves two purposes -- (1) fashion and (2) warmth .

thanks.

Then the reply of AK is pretty accurate.

I'd like to add regarding the color of the skins to match the color of the coat, that if the coat is old, the color tends to look a little "washed out" and that would make the matching even more difficult.

  • 2 weeks later...

The fur district in NY keeps lots of pelts around of all ages. They usually do a great job of matching up pelts. If you are near there, go hunt around. But, I wonder how many have survived?
