White Fox
I keep thinking of this and never remember. Well here goes. A Fox Identification question. A number of years back (ten at least) I visited Washington in the winter. Just outside the Smithsonian, I saw a woman walk past me. She had a full length fox on. As I recall it was mostly white but with streaks about the width of streaks you see on many fox furs. I have trouble recalling the colour of those streaks but charcoal gray comes to mind. As mentioned, it was indeed a long time ago. The distinctive part about this coat though is that the fur was very "Ragged". Much more so than any other fox coat I have ever seen. The ragged tips of different length of fur would move in the wind making the coat absolutely beautiful. At one point, I thought that this might be a Platinum Fox but have never been quite sure as to what it really was. Most platinum photos I have saw have not had the "ragged" characteristics of this coat. I would say that since I have never seen a photo of anything near to it, that it is probably an extremely rare type of fox. Trust me. It was fox. But from there... ? Anyone here any ideas? Experts? White Fox ***Added later. This coat has a similar sort of "Ragged look" to it though that was more pronounced in the coat as I remember it. But the coat was Fox, and had the traditional stripes in so many fox coats rather than the spots on this one. ReFur
White Fox, It was popular for a while to do a "Faux Lynx" by taking (I believe) Blue Fox, bleaching it White and dying dark spots in it to simulate the Lynx spots. It never looked like real Lynx, but I liked it. Kind of a "Designer" look. As for the rugged look it could be it was feathered. I have not seen that with furs as fine in texture as White Fox. The guardhair is so fine and soft it would be hard to do, it seems. Sounds great though. The furs I have seen feathered have been Tanuki, Coyote and I forget the last one. Looks like cheaper Tanuki, in Raccoon family as I remember, but European pelts. Gosh, how can I be forgetting these names after living-and-breathing them for five years?! Could it be Finnish Raccoon? I have to get back in to the business again. Not sure how, but I have a feeling I will before long. Linda
White Fox
Too long haired for blue fox of any type. Marble is possible or even a white dyed with streaks, and as I recall a few spots. Especially if altered a bit to give it a feathered look. I just always remembered it. That sort of "ragged look" really looked fantastic! Especially when blowing in the wind. Ahhhh, The answer my friend is blowing in the wind. The answer is - - - well maybe not eh? W
