JGalanos
It's 23 F now with an overnight low of 3 F forecasted. Prime fur weather. Some areas of Dixie are about to get their first measurable snowfall in over a decade. Record snowfall on the East Coast. Where is everyone? I'm going to the opera tomorrow night and expect to see dozens of elegant furs (after a bit of debate, I've decided to be bold and wear my crystal fox coat ). I haven't been around here much the past month or so but I've seen many, many beautiful furs this season at the opera, theater, symphony, restaurants, museums, shopping, etc. I've been wearing my furs frequently (all 10 of them have been out and about this season) and expect to continue to do so for at least the next six weeks. Have a great weekend!
White Fox
Indeed Would love to see more of the new folks coming in to tell us of their fur wearing and fur viewing experiences. As well as old faithfuls of course. And would love to see more furs on the street myself as well. W
lovesfox2
Yorkshire. North of England - quite cold last few days, but i have kept the wearing of my furs to myself. I have a blue fox coat and an Arctic Wolf coat, as well as Black Fox and Red Fox jackets a Coyote jacket and an "older" grey fox jacket. Would love to chat to new friends and meet fur appreciators
JGalanos
Great to hear from you lovesfox2 ... And congrats on your second post! Keep 'em coming. Tis still cold here. In the past ~60 hours I have worn ~50% of my fur/faux fur wardrobe - All 3 faux furs plus my ranch mink, crystal fox, and American raccoon coats. Several compliments received on both the faux and the real furs. The opera was almost a mink farm Saturday night. Dozens of mink coats and jackets in a variety of colors and styles. I saw blue iris, ranch, mahogany, white, etc. I saw two gentlemen in mink -- One wearing a full length ranch mink coat and one wearing a 3/4 length white mink coat (over brown leather pants -- I had a 70's flashback!). No one else has had any interesting sightings or wearings? Minimal activity here the past few days. Way too quiet. I'm planning to head out tonight in my immense crystal fox coat. No time like the present to enjoy sumptuous fur!
fur999
In Sydney on Friday last week it was 38 deg C, and as humid as a sauna! A bit cooler today, but so far the only fur sighting has been of a full length blue fox, in the mirror!
JGalanos
so far the only fur sighting has been of a full length blue fox, in the mirror! Totally understand! When I got in last night I could not resist the urge to look at my crystal fox coat in the bathroom mirror before taking it off.
JGalanos
Just got in from dinner and a stroll in my American raccoon coat. I think I've described it before. I bought it used on ebay from a LA consignment shop a few years ago for ~20% of the cost of a similar (new) coat. The coat was designed by Italian designer Valentino. I think it was purchased from Neiman-Marcus, Beverly Hills back in the 90's (it came with a N-M cloth storage bag). In my vivid imagination it was consigned by Pierce Brosnan. It's not exactly the style of coat I would have had custom made for me (my inner fur critic says the coat should be ~3" longer (to ankle), the sleeves ~2" longer (to knuckle), and the sweep ~6" wider (for a bit more leg room n pizazz)) ... But it has grown on me over the years. The coat is in pristine condition, the color is very rich, and the fur is quite lush. If you're a man considering buying a first fur, I don't think you could go wrong with a fine raccoon coat or jacket.
JGalanos
Speaking of men and fur, I've seen quite a number of guys sporting furs this season. Examples that spring to mind include: (1) Gentleman in a very nice beaver coat at Greenfield Village (suburban Detroit) in December. I just may have to buy a fine beaver coat one of these days. (2) Gentleman in a red fox bomber jacket at Dittrich Furs in Detroit in December. (3) Gentleman in a 3/4 length ranch mink coat at the MGM Grand Casino in Detroit in December. (4) Gentleman in a full length ranch mink coat at the Opera in Chicago (January and again in February). (5) Gentleman in a blue iris mink jacket on Michigan Avenue in Chicago (January). (6) Gentleman in a coyote coat on Michigan Avenue in Chicago (January). (7) Literally dozens of men sporting shearlings in lengths ranging from bomber jackets to 7/8 (Chicago and Detroit). (8) Two gentleman walking along Michigan Avenue in Chicago, one in 3/4 length black fox and the other in a pieced mink jacket (January). (9) And of course moi, sporting fisher, coyote, and ranch mink throughout greater Detroit in December and fisher, fox, ranch mink, mahogany mink, American raccoon, and coyote in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison (December through February). Has anyone else noticed this trend?
ReFur
Agree with you JG about Raccoon. It can really look great on men. I loved my Beaver coat.

Guest
When I was really young .. 3 to 5 .. I recall seeing guys in big Raccoon coats when mom would take me with her shopping. We had to walk past William & Mary College. This was the late 30's so Raccoon on campus was a very big deal and W&M was full of rich kids at the time. I remember saying to mom that she should have one of them I like Beaver best though, now .. for me OFF
grouchomg
I see more people here in the cold northeast wearing fur, but not many men. We are few. Not that others wouldn't if they could. "I can't afford one", I've heard that a lot. I've pointed men to e-bay as one place to purchase a man's fur at an affordable price. One of my colleagues recently did so, and I saw him walking about campus in his furry parka. Me, I save my pennies and buy new. I was able to buy two in 2009, a full-length indescribable big-collared coyote coat and a hooded red-fox coat, equally long. Both get a lot of notice when I wear them out, even in the yard in front of the house. Wear fur! All the time!
White Fox
Hey, FurLoverinFL has a beautiful full length hooded red fox. I don't think he gets as much chance to wear it since he has moved South but think he loves to when he can. I would love one of those too. Maybe some white on it as well. Cowitfurs
It's probably no surprise, but here in New York we've been seeing plenty of people 'rocking the fur'. Manhattan is quite well decorated with avid fur lovers, though we might be a bit biased in our assessment....
Worker 11811
Yes, when I visited NYC two winters ago there were lots of people wearing fur! Lots of NICE ones too! In fact, we had dinner at the "Top of the Tower" restaurant at the Beekman Hotel and we saw some nice fur there. They used to have pictures of people wearing furs in their ads too but they updated their website and it's all changed now.

And why, pray tell, did you not share this information at the time (or did I just miss the post)? P.S. Welcome back, BusyGuy.

FurLoverinFL
Hey White, thanks for the mention! <-Guess you mean that one! FLinFL ...and you're right, I really don't get to wear it that often. However, I don't think I've ever used it as much in a winter as I've done this year. Granted, it gets used as a blanket or throw, but it's wonderful nonetheless.
JGalanos
but it's wonderful nonetheless. Looks very nice. I don't see any of the white patches/spots that you occasionally see in red fox garments (and which I do not care for).
Guest
Not necessarily on FLin FL's coat but I like the white patches. There are a lot of them on my Red Fox spread. It's trimmed in Shadow Fox as well. OFF
White Fox
The could be the difference between white fox patches and white fox trim. Also, fur of course is personal taste. Mink, fox, sheared beaver. Light colours, dark colours, mixed colours. I do love red fox trimmed with white fox personally yet it is a look you almost never see. Red fox with a hood very long almost to the floor with white fox tux, and white fox sleeves is pretty hard to beat for me. I've not seen many. But have saw them a few times.
