grouchomg
I posted a photo to the gallery and titled it "Working Man in fur". Because I am a working man and wear fur all the time, every chance that I get: taking the trash to the street, walking the dog, using the chain saw, driving to work, shopping... you get the idea. So, what do y'all do when you wear your fur? Come on! You can tell us.
Guest
I'm like you goruchomg Taking out the trash, to the store, at work, the job sites and meeting clients. Everywhere and all the time. OFF
JGalanos
what do y'all do when you wear your fur? Err ... Using a chain saw? I tend to baby my furs a tad more. This season my furs have been to ... Museums Restaurants/Bars Symphony Opera Theater Shopping (everything from grocery stores to Neiman-Marcus) Hotels/B&B's Casinos I'm frequently amused by people's reactions to my furs. While staying at a B&B in Michigan in December the owner's son (an avid hunter) asked several questions about my coyote coat (he said in 10+ years of hunting coyote he had never seen one the color of my coat). And I still laugh when I recall the collective gasp of the small crowd smoking outside the entrance of a bar in Wisconsin when they caught sight of me wearing my immense crystal fox coat in January. grouchomg
Err ... Using a chain saw? Well, wearing fur while using a chain saw may be a bit of hype, but I do have an old fur that I would consider wearing to work in the woods. This time of year, I wear one of my furs out most of the time when the temp is 40 or below as it often is here unless it's something down and dirty like cleaning up an oil spill or taking water samples from catch basins. I too am sometimes amused by folks reactions to seeing a man in a fur, but most people who know me have gotten used to it. I meet with publics works people, student interns, emergency managers all the time and they don't seem to mind. As for those who disapprove - there are a few - they have no choice but to let me do it.
Guest
Though wearing fur around here is rare most folks take me wearing fur as very matter-of-fact. I was initially surprised when I first started wearing fur all the time but it's a real surprise when someone does comment. It's usually young women. I've had a few guys on job sites comment that they wish they had one. It was always in a case of extreme cold. OFF

grouchomg
I've had a few guys on job sites comment that they wish they had one. It was always in a case of extreme cold. I get that a lot from men and women. When it's below 20 F everyone seems to appreciate the warmth of fur! I first appreciated fur working in the wind-swept basins of Wyoming. A lot of ranchers and others there wear fur just to stay warm - including those of my employer, a railroad. I came to understand why after I bought my first fur - a coyote parka. (Thanks to Gary H for the inspiration.) Often, when working on projects, I was the only one who was comfortable in the 40 mph winds blowing across I-80 when the temp was below zero. In places like that, it's a necessity in my judgment.
White Fox
I often wear fur as well. Even shopping though not as often in the food store. But I will often drop into the drug store or such places while wearing fur. Such a great experience indeed! So warm. So soft. So cuddly! One disadvantage that I find is an advantage as well. That is that it is so warm. I find it to be so warm that it is often just too warm to go walking in. Or exercising to any extent. My highlight always is the times that I get a chance to go away in the winter for a few days for a simple "fur vacation". Wearing fur all day for days at a time! That has to be the experience of a lifetime each time I do it! W
Worker 11811
If I had fur to wear I'd wear it out all the time. I'd probably like to have two... One to show and one to go. (i.e. One fur to wear every day and one to wear on special occasions.) When I bought my wife's fur coat, she was initially hesitant to wear it but, when she first wore it outside in sub-zero weather her mind changed real fast! Now she wears it to the grocery store if it's cold out! Fur was meant to be worn, not hung in the closet!
JGalanos
it's a real surprise when someone does comment. Not fur me. I've kinda gotten used to it though. Like I was not surprised last Saturday when a group of African-American men stopped me on the street and asked what I was wearing (my mahogany mink bomber jacket). When I told them "mink" one of them whooped "I knew it". Apparently they had been arguing about what my jacket was made of since they caught sight of it/me 1/2 a block away. Or like the woman a couple weeks ago who told me "Your coat is beautiful!" after I picked up my fisher coat from Coat Check (at the Symphony, which does check furs!) and put it on. swedfur
I wear fur almost every day when it´s snow outside here in Sweden. This winter was very cold for a long time (thanks to him above) and perfect for for wearing fur. I normally use my bluefox lined floor length coyote coat but I use also my long toscana sheepskin coat and my raccoon coat. The atmosphere in Sweden can be bad sometimes (damn PETA) but I have not been attacked. The most people are staring at me when I using my furs, but let them stare, I can take that. I really try to wear my furs at all occasions and I really enjoy it. Today is a sad day because I went to the furrier and hand in my furs for summer, the positive in this sad thing, is that I handed over eight furs (most foxes) that I had bought cheap on eBay and the furrier had to make blankets and big throws out of them. This new blankets/throws are preliminary ready in November/December. I really like fur blankets/throws, sometimes more than fur coats.
JGalanos
I normally use my bluefox lined floor length coyote coat Sounds wonderful. Was this custom made (sounds unusual)?
swedfur
Yes it´s custom made. It´s a real big coyote coat that I had a furrier lined with bluefox. Actually it is not so fluffy as you can imagine. My furrier did a great job and I am really satisfied with the job.

swedfur
In the gallery you can see my bluefox lined coyote and also a bluefox lined bluefox coat that I let my furrier make for my ex girlfriend. Unfortunately she took this bluefoxdream with her when we broke up.
JGalanos
Do you wear the coat out? If so, is it too warm (always wondered about the double fur thing)? Just curious, as I've broken a sweat more than once in my "regular" heavier furs (coyote, fox, etc.) when in a hurry walking up Michigan Avenue (it's a longer trek from Millennium Park to Bloomies than one would think!). swedfur
I wear my fur outside but I don´t have any warm clothes under the fur. When I open my fur for letting the heat out a little, there are lot of people look at me. I think they never have seen a double sided fur before. It always funny when you hand over the fur to a person that hang your fur up, they have big eyes and shake their heads. That is so funny to see. The funniest part was when my ex girlfriend had her doublesided bluefox fur and after she had handed over her fur, then I came and handed over my fur. I wonder what that person said to his friend after that we came with our furs.
