fur999
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380152824112 Click the link to Purplesoshana, and you'll see a good looking red head (dyed) in a VERY expensive ($39,000) Russian Sable coat for sale. Anyone got some spare pocket money?
JGalanos
Very nice. Love the color and the cuffs. The side vents are an unusual feature. I've only seen them on a handful of coats.
White Fox
Have a look at her other products right now. White minks that are fabulous. Not sure about side vents. I had a coat with a back vent once, and it was in the furrier getting fixed more than I was wearing it. Finally had it taken out and had no more problems. Maybe a side vent would be better though. samurman
I have a feeling that the side vents in this coat are placed for economic reasons. For a 54" long coat, I think a swing of 63" is quite short. I would expect a swing of about 80" to be luxuriously "flowing" around, but then it would mean using more fur, which would mean a higher price tag, or a lower profit margin for the furrier. My full length tanuki coat's swing is generous, yet when I fully button up I sometimes feel the coat's hem sometimes gets in my way while walking briskly. Some of you may know that "hobble skirts" are intentionally made with extra short hems so that the wearer is forced to take smaller steps when walking. So it seems to me that the side vents are a practical solution to keep a shorter hemmed coat wearable. For example, check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/DRAMATIC-NEW-RUSSIAN-SABLE-FUR-COAT-sz12-22223-/330430077564?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_CSA_WC_Outerwear&hash=item4cef2ada7c 53" long with 83" sweep. It surely has a fuller and wider look, and the hem's flow is easily appreciated in the video. Or this one, from purpleshoshana: http://cgi.ebay.com/Gorgeous-Russian-Sable-Fur-Coat-S-M-/400069706177?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_CSA_WC_Outerwear&hash=item5d260341c1 The length is the same as the original coat, 53" but the sweep is 69". 6 inches may not be much, but then transforming a coat from a 63" hem to 69" hem, ceteris paribus, could well mean driving the cost up several thousand dollars. JGalanos
it seems to me that the side vents are a practical solution to keep a shorter hemmed coat wearable. That had not occurred to me. Could be the case. My full length tanuki coat's swing is generous, yet when I fully button up I sometimes feel the coat's hem sometimes gets in my way while walking briskly I noticed this "confined" feeling when trying on furs, thus all of my custom made furs have unusually wide sweeps (for a man's coat, anyway) of ~70 to ~80 inches. ReFur
Love this fur. Have never seen a long fur with the side vents as this one has. Have seen several that were knee length which was combined with a leather belt (vintage). The side vents on this fur would have another advantage, it would "sit" more comfortably while still being clipped or closed. It would also be easier to get in-and-out of a car. I always hate long furs like this in very bad weather. (But, this is when I want to wear them the most!) Inevitably the bottom of the fur will get salt and winter "yuk" from the floor of the car or from steps. It is hard to protect the fur when there is bad weather without risking falling on the stairs or slipping when I get in the car. Plus, it messes up the silk linings. I know what you guys are talking about on feeling a fur is binding on the bottom. I hate that, too. It almost makes me feel overwhelmed by the fur. ...kind of claustrophobic. I too love a fur that flares out. Hate the lines when they hang straight. They just are a shame when the beautiful pelts are wasted by a fur mechanic who is a novice or has no sense of style. samurman
Since ebay links may soon expire, I have downloaded the pictures in each listing and uploaded them to the Den's gallery. The pictures of the original sable coat with sidevents that fur999 has started this thread with: The pictures of the sable coat by webfurs, with a sweep of 83" that I talk about in my reply: And these, the pictures of another sable coat by purpleshoshana, this time with a sweep of 69": Now, future generations will all know what the heck we were talking about:)

Guest
I think most of those are in the eBay Album of The Gallery. If they are not then they should be. OFF
