Fur ID, sable or mink...

Inclined to say sable but find it hard to tell. The 3rd picture seems to suggest it the most by the longer, thiner guard hairs, and under fluff.

A very good question. In fact, if there had ever been an "Master Furrier Aptitude Test" or MFAT this question would definitely be in it!

 

I would say this is mink, though a very good one. The fur on the collar looks really plush, but the body of the coat is definitely mink.

 

Now, I am wondering what our resident experts will have to say on this...

I am not an expert. But to me the guardhair and underfur appears too long and dense for Mink. I have only seen a few nice Sables, but if I had to place a bet, that would be it.

It is always hard to tell for sure from images where the lighting is less than optimal.

 

The fur is definitely from the weasel family, and to me the coloring is closer to martin or sable than mink. However I am NOT a furrier and could be wrong.
