FrBrGr
Watched the Neil Simon play-turned-movie, "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" again tonight. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of seeing it, the story revolves around Barney Cashman, played by Alan Arkin, the 45-year-old owner of a New York seafood restaurant, who clumsily attempts to have an affair with a woman in his mother's studio apartment while she does volunteer work at a local hospital. He makes three different, hilarious attempts with three different women, the first one of which is the fast-witted, cynical, sarcastic, wise-cracking Elaine Navazio, played by Sally Kellerman. A straight-as-an-arrow, but sexually-frustrated Barney meets Elaine in his restaurant. She is sitting there in her full-length, drop-dead gorgeous lynx coat. That was pleasant enough, but gets better when she shows up later at the apartment for the affair, still wearing the coat. The best part is that for the better part of the time she's there in the apartment with Barney, she wears the coat. That is for about an hour in story time which is about a half an hour in actual time. I have seen the entire movie two or three times (after all, it is a good - and hilarious! - movie) but since it is recorded, I have watched that first part of the movie about a gazillion times! Oh, man - That coat is to die for! Of course, they never make it to bed, but every time I see the movie (or at least this part of the movie) I always think about how great it would be to see Barney go for it, with her in that gorgeous coat!
