Is this fur company reputable??

So...the only company that I could find coats that were my style was at an overseas online company called ezfurs. I have searched relentlessly and everything I found falls in the old lady going to church category. These coats are amazing but they are priced so low for such beauty that I am very apprehensive plus they are overseas. When I call them on the phone they just answer hello like their at home which prompts me to ask them," is this EZfurs"?Their return policy states that I would have to call them to get an address if I need to return. And to top it all off...I found that they have posted fake testimonials in a Fur Den Forum. I really want to purchase from them. Does anybody know anything about ezfurs.com? Help!!!

Allow me to put it as simply as possible.

The IP address from which all the EZ-Furs posts have come from originates in Beijing, China.

The IP address for EZ-Furs is registered through GoDaddy.com but it is hosted from another server in Beijing, China.

I wouldn't jump to any bad conclusions based on this information but neither can I recommend them based on it.

I can't recommend, exactly. It's pretty difficult to buy quality, fashionable furs on-line.

Fur is one product that you really need to get your hands on to know its quality and whether it's the thing you really want. Trying on and buying is best done in person. A lot of the price you pay for a fur is the service of selecting, touching, trying on and consultation with a real, live furrier in the studio. When you buy a fur on-line you miss a lot of that. Sure, it's cheaper but, as the old saying goes, "You get what you pay for."

This is not to say that you can't buy fur on-line but you really have to know the person you are dealing with on the other end. When you are dealing with an unknown entity, it's hard to know what you're getting.

As far as on-line furriers, the only one I can recommend from knowledge is Mailon Furs.

Kostas, the proprietor, is a member here. He does own a real fur business but he is also an on-line retailer. Several people from this website have bought fur from him and I don't know of anybody who has been dissatisfied.

Do check out his site: http://www.mailonfurs.com/

Remember, you get what you pay for.

As far as brick-and-mortar furriers, I'd have to know what area you live in before I can recommend. (Even if it's only the state or general area such as "Midwest U.S.A.") Don't forget it might be worth a trip to New York City. If you are a shrewd buyer and know where to look, a visit to the Fur District might save you enough money to pay for a train ticket and a night in a hotel.

You'd have a nice fur AND a trip to NYC for the same or even lower price!

You might find some ideas as to Furriers on this page if you want to try on some. As a general rule, those that advertise a lot are the larger furriers, and they are the ones with larger stock.

I could not agree more re Mailon if you wish to order on line. But remember that part of the fun is looking around and trying on furs. BUT, remember one thing. Do NOT go in and ask for a coat "For your sister"! Go in and ask to look at a coat for you. And then, if you find they give you the crap that only otter will work for a man, you know they do not know what they are talking about so walk right back out the door again. But you can hint a bit. If you see a long blue fox hanging there ask if it is big enough for you try try on to get an idea of the colour, etc.

Just some ideas. Main thing is to buy something that looks good on you. If a full length white fox looks good then buy it. If a black mink jacket looks best then buy that!

At least after looking, you can talk to an on line dealer and have them make something similar for you.

PB, I think you have laid out some very compelling reasons why I, personally, would not buy from this seller. EZfurs may have some great furs at very low prices . . . or not. "They" certainly haven't done much to enhance "their" credibility . . .

There was an member who used to frequent the Fur Den who could really give you advice on where to shop for furs in Chicago. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us.

However, do a site-search for member name "JGalanos" and you'll be able to read many of his posts which talk about fur shopping in the Chicago area. The guy was a wealth of information on furs and fur shopping. Maybe his legacy lives on if his posts can help you find a furrier that suits you.

My next idea is a little bit out there but it IS viable:

You can catch an Amtrack train from Chicago, Union Station, to New York City, Penn Station for about $130 or $140 one way.

The NY Fur District is walking distance from New York Penn Station. There are a couple of nice hotels in the area, too. Again, not too expensive, considering.

The furrier who I bought my fur from is Michael Hennessy. They are good people.

http://www.superpages.com/bp/New-York-NY/G-Michael-Hennessy-Furs-L0141461077.htm

Hennessy is in one of the 7th Ave. "Fur Buildings" in the District. You'll be able to shop about a half dozen retail furriers in one city block and, in the Fur Building, there are about a half dozen more who sell wholesale and retail. (Almost all fur wholesalers will sell retail to a serious customer if you ask nicely.)

Hennessy is one of the companies who produce furs for Yves St. Laurent. Part of the agreement between the supplier and the designer is that they get to sell merchandise under their own name after the season ends. My wife and I bought a fur from Hennessy which was identical to a YSL design which was made from the same materials, by the same hands, in the same shop but at about half the price. You'll get to see the fur, in person. You'll get to try it on and speak to a real human, face to face. If you live out of state, they'll ship it via Fed-Ex directly to your home and you won't even have to pay the sales tax!

You'll spend approx. $300 on a round trip train ticket and another $150 for a night in a hotel. You'll get the exact same fur that you would have bought in a department store except for the fancy label sewn into the collar and you'll STILL end up paying less!

You can't beat that with a stick!

I've purchased furs on line, including e-bay, and have gotten burned a couple times when I was a novice at fur pruchasing. Now, I only buy custom furs from two furriers that I trust. They are Mailon Furs - someone else posted a link in a previous post - and Olivers Furs in Montreal.

I'll try those companies. It just seems like I can't find the young hip furs that I want. I'm only 26 so I don't want some big puffy full length fur and that's all I seem to find. I can't afford to get one completely custom-made. Have u guys heard of pop furs.com or faithfurs.com?

Please don't think I'm looking down on you when I say this. I'm not. I'm just telling you what I think because I went through almost the exact same thing as you and this is what I said to myself.

You've got to ask yourself what you really want a fur for. If you want a fur to "play with" your requirements will be different than if you want a fur to wear out and to keep for long term. A "play fur" will only be worn indoors. A "wearing fur" will have to be better quality and will have to look presentable.

If you want a "play fur" you can certainly get it on-line and the variability in quality that you are likely to get won't be noticed. If it's a "wearing fur" quality will be of importance. In any case, you shouldn't be in such a rush to buy a fur "just to have a fur" that your emotions overrule your intellect. You can easily drop a grand for a fur, even a cheap one. Even if you only want a fur to play with, you will want to get your money's worth. Right?

When making such an expensive purchase as you would when buying fur, slow and steady always wins the race.

FaithFur.com's IP traces back to a commercial web hosting company in California but, according to the company's "Contact" page, they are based in China.

Popfur.com's IP traces to China and they are also based in China.

So, let's say you want to get a fur from one of those companies. You buy it on-line and it comes by UPS. Let's assume that the companies are reputable because most companies ARE reputable. I'm not dissing these companies because they are Chinese. That's not my point. My point is about GEOGRAPHY.

Let's assume that everything about these websites is on the "up and up." You've still got 6,000 miles between you and the source. That's quite a distance! While I have no reason to believe that these companies are not who they say they are, distance is a big factor.

How can you tell if you like a fur just from looking at a picture on your computer?

How can you tell if the fur fits you the way you like just from looking at the picture?

If you want the fur for pleasure, how can you tell if the fur will "float your boat" the way you like?

You've got to get your hands on it. You've got to try it on. You've got to talk to a real, live person to ask questions and get real answers. With, literally, half the world between you and the source there is no way you can do all these things and be 100% sure you're going to get satisfaction for your hard-earned money.

At MINIMUM, you're going to want a seller who knows what you are looking for and who you can ask questions about the product. I have not done business with Kostas at Mailon Fur but several people who frequent this site have and none of them have voiced any dissatisfaction.

Kostas hangs out here. You can post a question and he will answer it, time permitting. You can post links and pictures of what you like or don't like and he can deal with you as directly as possible via the internet. Let me also point out that Kostas knows about the fur fetish and he's "cool" with that. You can send him a private message and he will answer with discretion.

BTW: Let me also point out that most professional furriers understand about the fur fetish and they don't have a problem with it, either. If you just you want a fur "for fun," most professionals would understand that and they wouldn't even bat an eyelash. (Been there... Done that... )

You can certainly use the internet for research and as a study tool. You can certainly buy from internet sites if they are a known entity who you can contact if you have questions or problems. However, if you are really serious about buying fur, the best thing to do is to see the product in person or, at minimum, buy from a person whom you can ask questions before you buy.

My best advice would be to find some fur stores in your area and just go there to look around. Don't buy yet. Just walk in and be honest. Tell the salesperson that you really want to buy a fur but you don't know what you want. Next, watch the salesperson's reaction. If they give you the cold shoulder, you should probably find another store. If they try to give you the "hard sell," take a hike. Don't expect a salesperson to give you 100% of their attention if you are not going to buy right away. However, they should still be polite and somewhat helpful. A good salesman knows that you might not buy today but you might come back later.

Once you've had a chance to check out a few furs you can go home and sleep on it for a day or two. THEN, you can decide on where you want to buy your fur. If you've got your eye on one of those furs on the internet, go ahead and buy. But, this time, you're buying with KNOWLEDGE.

  • 2 weeks later...

This thread is full of invaluable information, and I just wanted to add this: Buying furs online may seem more economical, but nothing can beat the excitement of visiting a fur salon, full of furs stacked nicely in racks. Going through those racks, picking up furs, trying them on, chatting with the furrier, exploring custom design alternatives... It's an incredible experience!

Although I spend hours each week visiting various web sites and I occasionally buy fur online, I made a point to go visit my furrier a few times each season, and to come up with an exciting custom fur project for him to carry out for me. In just a couple of years, he has become a trusted friend, and although his services may be a bit expensive for my budget, I do not mind at all, since I am at least supporting the last reputable furrier in my town. When he is gone, it will be a great loss.

When my wife and I first went to the Fur District, she wasn't 100% sold on the idea but she just went along. I went shopping at some places she like so it was my turn to take her shopping at some places I liked.

When we got into Hennessy's and started to try on a few of the "real" furs her attitude started to change. Probably the number one factor was the human element. Tatiana, the salon manager and Michael Hennessy, himself, came over to help her try on furs and made a fuss over her as she tried each one. It's a big "sale point" when the owner of the company and his "right hand man" (or, in this case, "right hand woman" ) come to personally help you try on furs!

We had already tried on furs at Macy's and Neiman Marcus. They were "nice" but it wasn't until we received that personal service of, literally, being plied with furs that she found a fur that she really liked.
