Funinfox
Hi all, Has anyone been to the Steven Corn salon in New Jersey? I've been past it lots of times and each time I've thought it looked interesting. Now I'll be in New York for several days and I'm tempted to go have a look. Its going to be a bit of a trek from Manhattan so I was wondering if it is worth the trip. Cheers, Funinfox

Funinfox
Hi all I did go in the end to the Steven Corn salon in new jersey but i wasn't very impressed. They only had 3 things for men when i asked what they had for fur for men and when I asked for what they had in fox they didn't have anything. Maybe it was because of the time of year but all in all after waiting years to go it was quite disapointing . Specially because earlier I had been in Flemington and because of time constraints i had decided not to go into Flemington furs. Also in Manhattan I saw some big posters for http://www.fursourceofny.com and when I looked that up it had the address as 101 west 57th street but unfortunately when I went there this sunday there was nothing there Furwise not a very successful trip to NY this time! fox4me
I stored one of my furs there several years ago. They didn't have hardly any men's coats or jackets. As I wrote earlier, Flemington had an almost non-existant selection also. Save yourself time and a disapointment and ferret around N.Y.C. instead. Good hunting! White Fox
The same old deal where they do not sell enough men's coats to make it worth while. So suddenly it is the "One size fit's all and that one size looks terrible on almost everybody" concept that ends up in men looking for a women's coat in a stright and basic style. Joe
This time of the year, mainstream furriers like Steven Corn and even Flemington Furs won't stock our favorite coats cut in a men's style. If you're looking to try on the big coats in fox, coyote and so on, your best bet is one of the New York showrooms who caters to the hip-hop clientele. Start on West 30th St. between 7th & 8th avenues in midtown Manhattan, NY. Try USA Furs by George (shameless plug: I bought two coats there), Kaufman Furs (bought one coat there) and even "The Fur Man" (formerly Fursher, pronounced like For Sure) between 6th & 7th. West 29th btw. 7th & 8th has a fair amount of street-level fur showrooms that ought to have what you're looking for. But to Flemington's credit -- if they don't have it, they'll find it...or make it for you. A great deal of coats available at Flemington Furs are not on the showroom floor. They rotate the display items throughout the year. If a coat is not sold, it will probably be cold-stored until summoned for sale or re-display. Flemington Furs owns and operates a little shop called The Fur Exchange, which is directly around the corner, to the left of the big fur company. I've had good luck there.
