wfr
Though I agree 100% with the thread, furriers in very majority like furs, I have this story few years back. I had a kind of side-project that I visited furriers in my country to see if they're interested in stronger web appearance - of course for free. Sounds stupid, but I didn't want make money out of it - just to be close to furs. So I was in this shop, I think 4-5 ladies sat there. I told them why I'm here, one of them invited me to the back office to listen the presentation. Long story short, I showed my idea, how a company would fit in this project, and ultimately about furs. I showed her some pictures of fur coats and pelts, when at - an otherwise very nice group of red fox pelts - she just said "This is disgusting." with a face of repugnance. Okay, I waited a few seconds, continued and finished. I really don't know what was this woman's position in the shop - maybe just a "simple" assistant for who this job meant pretty much the same like if she sold stones and rocks from the river. Her comment was kinda strange - I don't say the knife opened in my pocket (neither I had one), just I wasn't prepared for such response and tone, from a person who works in a fur shop. The punchline, a few months later I walked there again on the street and saw the shop is closed - maybe they moved to an another location, or just had to shut down...which I could imagine with such customer service... Anyway my 50 cent to the subject is I agree, most furriers deal with furs based on business grounds so most of them possibly have emotions toward them but they definitely cannot allow themselves to open it up publicly, neither think about daily as it would make very hard to work. Unfortunately I have less luck and experience with the shop attendants: for most of them the furs are pretty much the same if they offered any other apparel. And even if they notice the special nature of the fur, in very majority of the cases the light in their eyes rise only because of the "luxury and expensive nature" - aka power, wealth and money comes with the furs. holmf: they were perhaps a little bit too pushy "Ohh, pleaseeee? Do I really have to deeply stroke that fox coat to feel how thick and soft it is...? Again?" (just joking, I know what you mean)
