Small Fur Project(s)

I've attempted large projects in the past only to have them sit in a box for several years without progress.

I just got some very expensive "Office" lenses for my glasses recently. The ones with the vulnerable anti-reflective coating. Great for seeing well but so vulnerable just carrying them.

So I decided to make a case for them. I have a small scrap of sheared Alaska Fur Seal left over from one of my jacket linings I use to clean my glasses lenses. So I thought "what better to make a case from". It's one of the softest furs, or anything else for that matter.

Using yet another scrap I stitched a nice pocket with a flap on the short side opening I can stuff in to keep the glasses from falling out. Just two edges to stitch.

I used a leather needle (triangular point) and upholstery thread doubled for a secure stitch.

I picked a piece that was nice and clean on the skin side with the MATARA/FOUKE Arrow symbol stamped on it.

You have to have a logo on every piece of clothing and material object you own .. RIGHT!!! What better Logo

Now I can't wait for folks to ask "Where'd you get that?".

A furrier here in Anchorage offers eyeglass cases of mouton lamb for something like $12 - $15 (can't remember the exact price).

Edit: the actual price is $9.99

Another nice thing about Alaska Fur Seal is the thinness of the package.

I would imagine Mouton would be rather thick and heavy?

I avoided the sheared Beaver scraps for that reason.

Another; AFS is relatively waterproof and very tough.

Of course it's almost impossible to come by new these days but it can be had resale which is how I got mine.

Have one more coat to transform into something? Two jackets are lined with it.

Mouton varies depending on the quality of the pelts and how it was sheared. But in my opinion makes a nice eyeglass case due to the padding effect of the fur (fur inside, leather outside).

Have so far converted a mink jacket into a very nice mink waistcoat for my partner - worn a considerable amount of time - especially at sport.

Have converted a long 3 line blue fox stole into a 2 line double sided blue fox scarf which looks tremendous, and brings lots of remarks.

Am in planning stages for other small projects and am happy to share ideas / errors with anyone interested......they might not be perfect but they are not bad..

Yes, I'm very interested in other peoples ideas here.

I've converted an old hamster fur lining I got for like 25 euros into a long scarf (not very well done but good enough, it seems to get a umber of remarks).

I'd like to get some arctic fox pelts and use them as hood trims on my leather coat (I was thinking using 2 small pelts, one on each side for uber fluffiness). I did something with a small bit of lynx last year and it has had some great comments from both guys (who are very jealous) and girls (who just want an excuse to stroke it).

Everyone, please DO share images of what you have accomplished! Better still, it would be great if you could take pictures while you are progressing along the project. I for one am looking forward to appreciating anything out of your creative minds and hands:)
