punisherthunder
Greetings all, I have 2 full length raccoon furs, 1 raccoon and blue fox f/l, and several blue fox scarves. They aren't old, but they were from a time when my wife was into raccoon. Now it's all about huge power foxes I was thinking of having them restyled into a small blanket or throw, however, I live in the southeastern U.S. and the nearest furrier is a few hours away. I was just dropping in to see if anyone could recommend a good furrier who could restyle something like this for me. Thanks!
White Fox
Just to clarify here. Were you thinking that you might send the coats somewhere to have it done? Do you go to certain areas by times and think you might stop in when you are there? If so any particular areas, etc? I've been to one called I think "Toledo Furs" in Toledo Ohio where the fellow is a real furrier so should be able to talk about something like that for instance. He was very accommodating to me, and was willing to work with me etc. A really nice sort of guy. I can remember another in Indianapolis as well. But obviously you would have to send things to them. If you give more info, possibly another member who lives closer to your area could be of help. W
Guest
Other side of the country but Nicholas Ungar Furs (Horst Grimm) is very accommodating on things like that. 1137 SW Yamhill St Portland, OR 97205 503-241-8024 I know he services a number of folks in the East. AKcoyote
As has been pointed out in the previous 2 posts, finding a furrier who can and will do restyling work and is not just a retailer has become more difficult. It is not uncommon these days to have to send items out-of-state to get repair/restyle work done.
punisherthunder
Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the lateness on this ( the busy life of a grad student). I'm fairly sure I will have to have my furs shipped because of my location. So I have no problem with this. I've read so much about restyling and everything that I really think that a small blanket could be made from these two furs. I also have a blue fox jacket with a good six inch rip in the armpit. Whoever could fix that and make a blanket for me would definitely be getting my permanent business. I'm open to any recommendations as long as they are not in Canada. Nothing against Canada, but their shipping is sometimes out of control. Thanks!
icepilot
punisherthunder, let me know if you have any luck! I too am looking for a furrier to do some custom work and did not think it would be so hard. (See my thread "fur friendly Anchorage"). I will contact Ungar Furs and see what they say.....I too am willing to ship anywhere.
White Fox
If you are closer to Toledo Ohio you might give that fellow a try too. I didn't ask him about things like that but he is a real furrier. Not one of these stores that buys all premade items from China. I am pretty sure he could help as well and if you are from Eastern US it might be MUCH less expensive to ship there. Shipping clear across North AMerica can be expensive. That is why shipping to Canada is so expensive. Simply a matter of the huge distance involved.
