White Fox Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 There are strange things done neath the midnight sun...
White Fox Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 Ha Ha Wondered how long it would take someone to ask or come back with a line! Look up "Cremation of Sam McGee". I love that old one. Here where you been Earendil?
Worker 11811 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I've seen queer sights like the Northern Lights But the strangest I ever did see Was the night on the marge of Lake LeBarge When I cremated Sam McGee. Robert W. Service. I did that from memory. In 8th Grade American Literature class we had to recite a poem in front of the class. "Sam McGee" was the poem I chose. Yes, the class was suitably freaked out! That was the point of choosing it. I still occasionally use the phrase, "Oh! How I loathed that thing!" BTW: Has anybody seen the lady who's known as Lou?
White Fox Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 Yes, he's a lot of good poems. But Sam McGee is GREAT! I don't think another one of his touches that one! AND. I've been told that from the day he wrote it he absolutely hated it til the day he died. Don't know if it is true. But kind of suspicious that it might be.
Worker 11811 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Oh, come on. You gotta' love Dangerous Dan McGrew. In a buckskin shirt that was glazed with dirt he sat, and I saw him sway, Then he clutched the keys with his talon hands. My God! But that man could play. Interesting how both those poems have the same, exact meter.
Earendil Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I've been around, White Fox. Lurking is my speciality.
White Fox Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 For those newer members here. The Den's roots come from two different sites. E was the original member of one of them, and though I am not quite sure he may be the most "Original Member" here. I think the site he was on might have been just slightly older than the original Den Wow, that was a couple of years back not eh E? W
Earendil Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Yep.. I've certainly been in for the long haul, although my contributions over the past few years have been sparse at the best.
