Aldhissla
Hello all, Please enlighten me about the differences in lynx in this magnificient photo. Are they american vs russian, belly vs back or what? Cause it's still two lynxes right, not bobcat? Lynx image on another website Thanks in advance! AKcoyote
I am NOT an expert and have not seen enough lynx to offer much of an opinion. But I think those coats are full skin and not lynx belly. Also, I have seen some Canadian cat-lynx that has similar markings to the coat on the right, but slightly different coloring. No matter what the exact specie and origin, those are very nice coats. zb
Hi, I would say the left one is a lynx, probably canadian. Here are some examples for canadian lynx: http://www.henigfurs.com/store/womens-lynx http://www.ebay.de/itm/PELZ-PELZMANTEL-MANTEL-PELZJACKE-JACKE-PELLICCIA-FUR-COAT-JACKET-FOURRURE-/250955814833?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item3a6e21d7b1 The right one might be a bobcat: http://www.henigfurs.com/store/womens-bobcat http://www.skandinavikfur.com/servlet/the-363/lynx-fur-jacket-,/Detail And lynx belly furs look like this: http://www.fur-style.com/fashion/by-designer/ready-to-wear/?season=36&model=8139&designer=188&cHash=891b85b7cc1f07d417bbc8d843683b90 Bobcat shows darker shades of beige, brown and red/orange. And the contrast between belly and back is bigger. Lynx is more pale, the spots are not that defined and belly and back are not as different as bobcats. Lynx has longer hairs, bobcat can be somewhat flat compared to a lynx. There can be big differences from pelt to pelt as well as from area to area (northwest, -east, ...). So I'm just guessing... I hope that helps...
Aldhissla
Thanks so much zb and the rest of you! Really helpful and now I know a bit more about lynxes. Next question: I would guess that all lynx skins are wild, cause I've never heard of lynx farms? Or are they also farmed?
AKcoyote
Next question: I would guess that all lynx skins are wild, cause I've never heard of lynx farms? Or are they also farmed? Excellent question. I have talked to a Canadian couple who said that they had been lynx ranchers until it became unprofitable. So I assume the answer to your last question can be yes; although I am not personally aware of any.
