fur inheritance

Hi, Im a bit fo a fur newbie (eg: Ive never owned real fur appart from a rabbit fur belt and rabbit trimmed gloves, all my other fur is faux)

I fell upon this site whilst trying to find fur experts and somewhere I can get help regarding some fur items.

I have recently inherited a large fur collection, it seems she was quite a collector of furs, and has left me in the region of about 20 coats, give or take, a box of stoles/wraps and collars and a box of loose pelts and tails.

Since I dont know furs, Im having difficulty indentifying whats what, I think I have figured out some furs, (like rabbits, by comparing them with my belt I have and other possibles by comparing them to pictures online) but of course, Im not certain, and wondered if anyone on here could help me identify the furs?

If I post pictures, a description and my possible thoughts on what fur I believed it is, can any of you kindly help me with indentifications?

Thank you in advance

Lil Furrball.

We can try, however sometimes it can be difficult to properly identify a fur from an image. The only way to be sure of an accurate identification is to take the furs in question to a reputable furrier.

In most cases a furrier will want some monetary compensation for their efforts. If you take some furs to the furrier for cleaning & glazing or off-season storage, they might identify them for you at no additional charge to the cleaning or storage services.

Thank you kindly for your reply.

I understand its a bit more alkward to tell what a fur is from pictures.

But Im also having difficulty finding a furrier in my area.

I shall post some pictures as soon as I can, along with my possible theories on what furs they are, and any help from anyone to confirm the furs identities would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks again

AK, I am wondering if we should open a temporary album to place these in for members to see them. We could then simply delete them when the project is finished if we wish, or proceed in what ever direction we wish. I think this might be a good idea.

If you do wish to open an album for the pics, Im more than happy to oblige, please just tell me how to do so, or what you need me to do, and I will, and yes then of course you can delete them once its been identified.

Ill be taking pictures tomorrow, so just let me know what you want me to do with them.

Huge Thanks.

A new album has been setup in the Miscellaneous category of the Den's Gallery - "furrball's inheritance".

furrball:

You should be able to upload your images to the new album. Maximum file size is 8 MB per image. Images can be any of the following types: jpeg, jpg, png, or gif.

Ok, I have posted the pics in the gallery, and added a comment to what I think each is.

I did a general pic of the fur, and then a close up to go with it.

Im afraid theres quite alot, seems its a rather big collection.

But once I know what they are, I should be able to sell them on.

So, any and all identifications, will be hugely appreciated.

Why not keep them in the album but make notes in the comments section?

That way the pictures are available to everybody to use a reference in the future. If somebody else has fur they want to identify they can look at your pictures.

Lots of different furs, and they all look quite old.....

DSC07288.JPG - the white with black tips is Ermine, used to trim robes.

I see Musquash, Silver fox, red fox and some odd ones...
