Guest
Can anyone identify this fur? http://pinterest.com/pin/109564203404299371/
Mr Barguzin
So, let us look closely at the enlarge pic fur a bit........... definitely a long haired fur....... which reduces the choices to coyote, lynx, fox or even wolf. I will reject Wolf and also coyote, the latter because it is too 'evenly' coloured (if you can use colour when referring to a grey-scale image LOL) Lynx? possibly, particularly because the guard hairs seem to have the lynx's whispiness about them. But methinks that it will be in all likelihood Fox.... and as the killer (of my reputation, such as it is) I will say that it is 1930/40's Blue Fox. *standing at burrow's entrance awaiting swift kick to boney backside when proven completely wrong*
Guest
Thank you! I had a feeling also that it was fox, but I've been having a hard time identifying this one!
Guest
Mr Barguzin: do you think this is coyote that Lupe Velez is wearing? http://pinterest.com/pin/109564203404285742/
AKcoyote
I would venture that this second one is also fox for many of the reasons Mr B stated about the first one. With Coyote, one SHOULD normally see more shades of color. Other than some shadowing from the lighting, I only see one color which leads me to believe the fur was probably a bleached fox or possibly shadow fox. Guest
Anyone have any idea what type of fur this is? http://fur-glamour.com/wp-content/uploads/11822017741597653_Ta6eqoSe_c.jpg
Mr Barguzin
The easy answer is fox, but what type...... that is the hard answer. It could be dyed to look like a form of lynx (the pale brown against the white) or it could be an 80's variant, called snow or somesuch. Easy way to tell if later furs are fox is to look at the sleeves, as furriers seem to just use fox in the spiral, circular and straight modes whereas most if not all other long haired furs have the sleeves worked straight. Worker 11811
I'm not certain it's real fur. The way the hair separates in the part that's bunched up on the counter top is what gives me pause.
AKcoyote
Worker is on to something -- If it is fur (possibly fox) than it was way overdue for a cleaning and glazing as the hairs are clumping. OR it could be something like tuscana (sp?) lamb which can clump like that if not combed out regularly. OR it could be a faux (fake) fur. The tint of the image, either from age or intentional, further complicates identification. ========================================================== Capitalistic Blonde, Topics like this regarding images should be in the Photo and Video Discussion Forum. Guest
I see what you are saying. I believe the fashion layout is new (within the last two years) so does that help at all? From what I can make out of the text, which obv isn't in english, it seems they are saying the coat is by Michael Kors, who is known for using real fur in his designs, this gives me the idea it is real fur. That said, I do see why worker says it might be faux. Personally I was leaning toward some type of lamb, but having a hard time identifying this one. Guest
P.S. I just noticed that you said topics like this belong in another category, AKcoyote. I'll remember that in the future!
Worker 11811
I'm not certain that it is fake but I can't commit to saying it's real, either. Real fur doesn't usually get furrows in the hair when it bends. That's usually a dead giveaway that it's fake. Real fur is backed by the skin (leather) and the hairs are randomly distributed over it surface. When the skin is bent or folded, the hairs stand up on end along the apex of the fold, producing a smooth density gradient. The hair doesn't part. Fake fur (or plush fabric) has a woven or knitted backing fabric and the hairs are intertwined with the threads of the backing. When fake fur is folded, it will often crease along the line of the weave of the backing, leaving a part in the hairs. I agree with AK. Fur that hasn't been cared for the way it needs to be can also behave like this. The way the fur appears matted and clumped on the upper part of the coat gives me the impression that, if it is real, it hasn't been cared for. But, from my experience with Teddy Bears, the majority of our collection at home being plush, not fur, I have seen a lot of Bears whose fur looks just like this coat. Especially the matting. Bears who spend a lot of time being snuggled by their humans often exhibit this kind of matting. Oil from the skin causes the hair to clump and mat down. That could also be a sign that the fur is fake. So, unless this fur was intentionally designed to look the way we see in the picture, my bet is that it is either fake or a real fur that hasn't been cared for the way it should. If it is real, however, my vote is some kind of fox fur.

Mr Barguzin
Trying to read the description: "abrigo de piel d? ????? de Michael Kors" Would Kors have used fake fur?
Guest
That's what's making me think it's real fur, Mr. Barguzin. I know Michael Kors is known for creating in real fur. Though worker has some valid points. If it is genuine I can't figure out what this fur might be?
furup
hi, Looking at the coat it must be fox. The bunching of the hairds on the right side of the coat looks only 2 3 inches wide. Like a hand that was run up the fur against the grain and stood the hairs up. Then not run down to reset them. I tried to translate the text on the net by typing it in again, it was incomplete and I had problems with the black line from the mirror making some letters hard to read. I argree with the dying of the fox into a uniform light color it may hve even been white. As the coat seems to match the mirror frame. I almost looks like a color photo the because of her eyes and lips. But it may have been changed to sepea color to give it a b&w look.
