Worker 11811
Totally f*cking awesome! The artist put a lot of work into those. She must have been a furrier. Although it seems pretty clear it was done by projecting an image to make a pattern, I have a hard time visualizing how it's all sewn together. Then matching the color and texture of the fur to the projected image in order to get it to look right must have been a real pain, too. Excellent post! furotic
Also here's an article, although old, that describes more on her exhibits. http://www.cmaj.ca/content/170/5/834.full This caught me from the article. "When visitors enter Marianne Corless' exhibition Further at Vancouver's Grunt Gallery, they are invited to remove their shoes and walk on a room-sized carpet pieced together from discarded fur coats. Through her work Corless encourages a frank and fresh discussion about the role of the fur trade in the Canadian experience." Oh how I would've loved to have seen this exhibit and feel the the fur on my feet.
Worker 11811
When visitors enter Marianne Corless' exhibition Further at Vancouver's Grunt Gallery, they are invited to remove their shoes and walk on a room-sized carpet pieced together from discarded fur coats. She's fur people. Isn't she? Wonder if it would be possible for her to do a Cruella?? I don't see why not. My guess is that she's using a computer to enlarge a photograph into a large pattern then, in one way or another, tracing that pattern onto the skin side of the fur. The pattern could be projected on a slide or video projector or it could be printed on a large format printer then traced over. Either way, the concept is simple. Though the concept is simple, execution is another thing. You'd really have to know how to work with fur to do that. All that, having been said, I can't imagine if she was offered enough money she wouldn't make almost anything you wanted. I bet the bidding starts at a couple-few thousand and goes up from there. I'm going to have to Google up this woman's name to find out more.
