storing fur hats

i have a question for fur storage.

 

specifically fur hats. i have a few and am wondering if i should buy some hat boxes for them during the summer months, or what have you.

 

 

any info on where/how to store fur hats during summer months would be appreciated, thx.

If you have the space, a drawer in a tallboy cabinet makes sense....lots of space and a few can fit in with an anti-moth strip. Other than that a hat box makes sense.

Fur likes cool, not too dry (or moist) spaces and likes space to breathe. The optimum parameters are about 50-55 degrees F (10-13 C) and around 50% humidity. Also keeping dust off the fur helps. A clean cloth bag such as an old pillow case is frequently recomended for storing smaller fur items such as hats.

I would think you would want to store fur hats in a furrier's cold room as you would a coat. That's what I would do anyway.

the only thing I can think of is a hat case as from a cowboy hat... you might disagree with it but it might fit two hats stacked vertically......

I use some canvas closet organizers for my short fur coats. It fits 3 mink coats/2 fox or coyote coats in each organizer, and store one or two fur hats under the coats at the bottom. It works pretty well. It looks like this:
