Guest
This Blackglama mink pelt is an example of a fur pelt with leather that was scraped too thin. You can see the fur fibers through the leather. The second pelt is a wild mink pelt with leather that was scraped perfectly. http://i57.tinypic.com/2aahbhu.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/65ae1d.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/2rqkfo2.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/im6v5k.jpg
AKcoyote
Nice examples to illustrate your point. " title="Applause" /> Unfortunately most tanners scrape the leather very thin to reduce the weight of the pelt. This is done to reduce the weight of the finished garment, but the thin leather dries out and starts falling apart much sooner than pelts where the leather is left thicker. mailonfurs
Indeed it is a problem for us furriers to get dressed skins like that. In most cases the hair falls off and makes bold spots where the leather side is scrapped too much. Fortunately, tanneries nowadays are more experiences and I guess they use modern technology and in most cases issues like that are avoided.
