dongleboy Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I've dealt with two furriers in my 20 odd years of fur collecting and I've asked both if they have ever had clients who have been the victims of abuse. They replied that no-one, male or female had ever had problems with 'anti-fur' activities.
Foxhuntgirl Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 ''FWIW, when we go out, my wife gets nothing but positive compliments''. Couldn't agree more. In my wife's case, more admiring looks rather than actual verbal compliments, although she gets those too. Hardly a single negative reaction in 30 years of fur wearing. The vast majority of the time most people don't even seem to notice, even with her 'power fur', a full length raccoon.
punisherthunder Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 We just got back from the Carolina Mountains from a mini vacation, and my wife got nothing but compliments in her furs as well.
cardinalcanary Posted September 26 Posted September 26 This is an old thread, but I'm reviving it as I encountered a very small anti-fur protest while running some errands recently. It was maybe 5-8 people tops outside of a nice hotel with signs and extremely loud horns chanting slogans ("No more traps! No more cages!," etc). I believe there was an event for Vogue being held at the hotel. Vogue barely features real fur anymore, so it seems like they're running out of targets. There were a number of onlookers gawking at the spectacle, hotel employees looking on sort of nervously, and a few cops keeping an eye. I've never seen one of these in person and was somewhat shocked at how quaint it seemed. I stuck around for a bit out of curiosity --they were definitely not convincing anyone of their cause, if anything it felt like most people encountering it were rolling their eyes. It was funny how pathetic it seemed. After a few minutes I left, completed my errand, and passed the hotel again. The protest had dispersed, and I overheard someone who worked at the hotel say, "they said they'll be back in a few hours." I was walking briskly, and realized I was directly behind the group of protestors, who had put their signs away, and were walking away together. I wasn't able to hear their conversation, but I did notice a pin that said "Cats not kids" on one of their backpacks, which I found amusing. I walked close to them for a couple blocks just because I was headed that way too. I got a bit of a thrill out of the whole ordeal. It was fun how they really came off as fringe and unreasonable, and I liked knowing how shocked and disgusted they'd be if they knew how many pieces of fur I had at home. It was quite hot that day so I was obviously not wearing any fur--if I was, I don't know what i would have done! Has anyone else encountered something like this in person? 4
WinnipegFur Posted September 28 Posted September 28 My only real negative comment was one morning on my usual walk...a woman going to work in the park made some snotty remark about me wearing a fur coat... I kind of smirked and made the comment about the coyote trim on the hood of her Canada goose jacket... that ended that pretty quick! LOL Last spring had a totally opposite remark from a woman in the park ... we crossed paths at the far end of the loop I was walking, and then crossed paths at the opposite end.. she complimented how beautiful the raccoon coat and hat were I was wearing.. we chatted for a few minutes... I even told her straight up its my moms coat that she doesnt wear, and its -30 out, and Im wearing it... didn't even phase her, and she just said who cares what anyone thinks, it looks great on you and you must be warm... I went into the card store on the way home to get my moms bday card, by then it had actually warmed up to something like -10... the woman at the counter asked if it was still that cold out... I said no, but it was this morning!! I couldnt tell if that was a "Is it cold out question" in a positive or negative context... 1
Panther10 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Yeah I think in the wake of the post “Mob-Wife Metality” movement, opinions regarding the sale and usage of fur has definitely made an impact on people’s individual perceptions. Almost a complete about face. It’s to the point where the comments I made in this thread almost a decade ago regarding my friends who considered themselves as being staunchly anti fur have now backed off a little in terms of the prosecutorial tone in their arguments. I wouldn’t say their pro fur yet or ever will be, but their arguments seemed to have plateaued to some degree.

What I have noticed is the price people are asking for used furs went up... theres a local guy on facebook... he must be related to a previous furrier thats closed down as there are about 7 coats for sale that appear to be in great shape... he has a full length size large black mink with silver fox/black fox sleeves and a massive silver fox collar... I keep looking at it wanting to get it, but hes asking $900 for a coat thats pushing 30+ years old... its from Reiss Furs, a local furrier here from years ago.. its definately one of those mid 80s early 90s power fur looks... the ones I like! Im usually not a fan of straight up mink when its really cold out.. I dont find mink warm compared to raccoon or coyote myself.. but with the addition of the fox sleeves and collar, it just does something for me... I might send him a low ball offer and see if he bites.. every coat he has is unsold in a month and a half since listing them... 1
paul2809 Posted September 30 Posted September 30 I have roughly two years ago...guy wanted to take my long fur coat right off me , and I said no In the most rude way I could think of and left where I was in the mall 1

I tried to politely reason with him that although the coat looks beautiful, its also 25-30+ years old.. I also asked him if it had been stored and maintained correctly over its lifetime... he did get back to me and said he'd think about it... I still think $600 is a little much, but I keep coming back and looking at those sleeves and that collar... its supposed to be zero overnight here coming this weekend... its actually +27 here now... go figure.. my sneak outside in fur temp usually starts at zero, and the sun is coming up later each day.. might get into the back yard.. not sure morning walks are in the plan just yet.. 2

Well as much as I want that coat... he seems pretty reluctant to move on it.. I got the well you can come down and take a look at it and we can talk about a price... I think even $600 is a little steep for a 30 year old coat in my opinion...

Just keep bugging him once a season and eventually he’ll relent… ESPECIALLY during the off-season when he knows he still hasn’t moved it.

This. I once talked a furrier into selling me a $14,000 brand new black fox for only $3,400 due to this kind of persistence. Every 3-4 weeks I’d walk into his store and try on the coat and eventually I gave him a figure and he accepted. And keep in mind the location of this furrier was on Michigan Avenue in Downtown Chicago. That is like the #2 spot of luxury shopping districts in the US. There is a Burberry right across the street so if someone had 14k to spend on that coat, that shop would have sold it for that amount of money. But they gave it to me because they knew I really wanted it. Edited October 6 by Panther10 3

I've never went to fancy fur shops just because I didn't want to pay too much but you show that in a way it's worth trying. Good job! 1

CoyoteFox Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Never assume the pricing is correct... Bought a coat this year off Ebay and the seller had it listed at $1,000 because she obviously didn't know the value and didn't want to risk under pricing it... Worked on her all Summer and eventually got her way down... Keep walking away and coming back with your newest cash offer!

I owned that coat from 2012-2019 and I’ve upgraded to a new phone twice since any photos have been taken and unfortunately those pics were never carried over onto the newer devices. I can check my iCloud account though. Maybe they’re still embedded in there somewhere. But unfortunately there aren’t any photos that I have immediate access to. 1
Panther10 Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find any pics either in my phone, my iCloud or on my desktop. I think maybe those photos were taken on a Google phone and didn’t get transferred to my pc so unfortunately I’m S.O.L. On that front. If it’s any consolation I’m currently in talks with my furrier right now because I’m interested restyling my Indigo and black fox coat that I purchased a few years ago. I’d like the coat to be reversible with black fox pelts on the inside. I’ve never worn a double sided fur coat before and this seems like the perfect coat to try it with. 1

I bought that phone in 2010 so I’m pretty sure it must have been the phone I was using at the time. and I use iPhone’s these days. I doubt I’ll ever be able to recover those photos. I’m just surprised I never took more photos on later phones. If it helps, the coat looked somewhat like this but it had J-Cut sleeves. Edited October 12 by Panther10 1
